Like in the shape of a character instead of a regular 6 or 8" cake with a flat 2D image on top?
Oh. There's a Pluto-looking cake in the "cake for 13 year old" current thread.

They will not sculpt Disney characters. It's one thing if it's something generic, but they have really strict copyrighting rules that keep them from doing anything with the characters. It's either an approved 2D image or picking ones of the approved 3D chocolate toppers in the list on the Cake Chatter.

Even so, it's still 3D. You really don't know what they can/can't/will/won't do until you speak with someone.I think that's a piece of white chocolate![]()

Its so odd to have a copyrighting issue when its a Disney resort ordering or making a Disney character. I just never understood that.
Yeah...and it's kind of hit or miss with these things. Even images they used a year or two ago may no longer be OK. Sometimes they won't touch a theme even if they did something identical 5 months ago. One bakery may do something the other won't and some things (like Pooh) are completely off limits. Even with 2D images, they have a library of images and are often limited to just that. Sometimes they'll offer to try and get an alternate image approved, but last time I asked for that, it was a 30 day (minimum) process. I've also had bakeries be willing to sculpt portions of a character...like Donald's hat, while another refused. I've asked to have the white chocolate toppers "dressed up" and sometimes they will and sometimes they won't. They are not supposed to be sculpting the copyrighted characters, but you never know when you might get someone who might bend the rules a bit or take a round and do something conceptual. Usually, the GF's bakery is your best bet for anything heavily customized, but they also can be the most strict with the rules and they sometimes push back and say they won't do elaborate things that aren't for weddings. The price could also climb drastically from the norms if they say yes. I recall someone wanting a standard sized mini cake (3" approx) to look like a tea cup and I think the GF quote was $250. Best you can do is reach out to the bakery that will be doing your cake and see what they're willing to do.

Thank you! Yeah we had GF make my husband's custom HM cake a couple of years ago and it was cute, but not something that I was overwhelmed by. I like the white chocolate toppers but its just missing so much detail. For $250 I would want something like WOW, not Eh. We'll be staying at the Beach Club in December, is the BW bakery my best bet?
Sure. They'll do almost anything structurally possible for a price. There's a phone number in the Cake Chatter thread.
Thank God I can do without a cake when I celebrate!
