Can we visit a DVC property?

We have decided that if we buy into DVC, the best choice for a "home" property would be HHI. My questions are:

If we drive there, will they give us a tour of the property and especially the rooms?

Secondly, is Disney selling points to HHI now or do you have to buy them from a resaler?

Thirdly, could we rent one of the units for a night? Kind of a test drive? Any idea of what the cost would be?

Thanks

I would call ahead to make sure they have units turning over the day you want to travel there to look. HHI will have sold out occupancy for all the summer, so it would probably not be possible to get a room there for this summer.

You could buy from Disney (from a waitlist) or from a reseller if available. You might want to check out the market by calling the resellers and seeing what a good offering price is.

HH has a unmanned security gate so you can't just drive up. Best thing would be to rent a villa at rack rate-then you would have leisure to look around.
Just don't try to get a villa in the summer months.
Small resort-busy season. :sunny:

Here is a link that gives info-Dis HH resort rates #4 of 59 on Hilton Head
They quote the average rate as $272

I was able to book a 1 bedroom thru Travelocity for $205 + tax and resort fees. It was for May 19-21. We loved the resort! It was well worth the trip - now 3 more bills to be paid off and we can afford the membership:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

Good Luck!

Thanks All! It just seemed to me that Disney would make available, tours, in order to entice potential investers. Availability of an empty unit not withstanding ofcourse.

go rent a reservation at HH from a DVC member. if they can't get you one - then go with CRO or expedia or travelocity.

it is a lovely place.

I was told by my guide, when we were looking at buying BCV, to stop by HH on our way home to see it. We did. The person at the other end of the speaker would NOT allow us access. She said the guide should have never said that. We drove from interstate 95 to see it and were turned away. She said sorry but...go away. Ok she didn't say it that way, but we felt that way. So...make prior arrangements or better yet stay for one night. It is a lovely place as we were allowed in the next year when we had reservations. :)

Disney only makes tours available at SSR and BWV where they have model rooms available and DVC guides on hand to answer your questions. At the other resorts, they would have to pull someone away from the front desk or elsewhere to show you a vacant room. So being able to tour a villa at one of the sold out resorts seems to be a matter of timing and luck. We stopped by VB one afternoon in late January and a very nice CM agreed to show us a vacant ocean view room. She was very busy so we only got to see one room type and it had to be a very quick visit. So I agree with what others have said here. Try to either rent from a member or book through CRO and stay there for a night. You will get a better feeling about the place if you get to stay in a room for more than a few minutes, can check out the dining options, etc.

Good luck! I hope everything works out for you!

You can buy points through DVC for HHI. I bought 65 points about a month ago for an April UY, so I am sure some are still remaining. I would call them to see if points are left.

Well, tell me if I could do this..... :smooth:

I noticed that there are a few DVC members on the forum here that have DVC points to rent. What if I "rented" enough points from someone to get me a weekend stay at HH. Would that work?

I guess I would never get a ressie though would I :rolleyes2

What about late fall???

Weekends on points are expensive! studio 58 points 1 bedroom 112 points for a Fri/Sat stay. @ $10 or more a night thats alot.

I had a $205 rate for a 1 bdroom for fri + sat night which worked out to about $475 total including resort fees I'd suggest paying cash for a weekend stay

also from what I've heard HHI is very seasonal - late fall may get you an idea of resort but I believe a good part of HHI closes down then.

Well, I actually didn't mean to say weekend. We are usually free to go anytime during the week and season. We would just like to get a feel for the resort without having to commit to it. Still think paying cash is the best way?

Nope! If it's a week DAY stay renting points is fine a 1 bedrom Sun - Thurs will be 110 points during dream season - now the only question is availabilty :teeth:

<chuckle> then again we got to stay in villa 3121 - which is a 2 Bdroom with a marsh view - man are we spoiled now! But we only got an upgrade because a DVC member decided to extend their stay so I got the upgrade! LOL :lmao:

I heartily recommend a dolphin tour while you're there - we loved Low Country Nature Tours - a six seat boat makes it a lot more fun than the bigger cruises I think.

As a non guest, non owner, they likely should have turned you away. It stinks you got conflicting info but that's not uncommon from some of the guides IMO. You could always have parked and walked across as they only monitor vehicles. A call ahead to a manager is the best option for this scenario though I'd suspect most of the time just a stop by unexpectedly will work out.

I wanted a week at HH in June one year (I have 165 HH points), so I had to call DAILY at the 11 month window to get all my days.

To make the resort larger Dis would have had to cut down the very old Southern Live Oaks-which would have been a tragedy. They had to cut a lot, as the island was covered with these wonderful trees-some of which are about 200-300 years old.

Hilton Head is way over-developed--so the Disney HH resort is like an oasis in the middle of the island.

PS: Fall is a great time of year on HH-still very warm-crowds have left-traffic less hectic, and you can get reservations. :sunny:
