Since we have to buy at least 2 day tickets for the free dining, can we use the 2 tickets from someone who doesn't plan on using them on our ressie?

FD is applicable only to vacation packages. You HAVE to buy the tickets when you get your FD. It's all or nothing.

I think so - but to be sure I would ned more details.

If the tickets are unused then anyone can use them but the same person has to use them for subsequent days, once someone uses the ticket for the first time then it is non-transferabble.

Last year we did the free dining and had A/P's so I had the CM take the one day tickets off our KTTW card and my sister used them. It was as if I had purchased the tickets for her. Once she used them then she signed them and her finger scan was tied to that ticket.

If you need more than 2 days why not just buy the number of days you need?

Does another family in your traveling party already have tickets? If so then yes you could use your tickets and then use theirs. Keep in mind that if you are purchasing their 2 day tickets then you are paying more than if you ordered what you need with your package.

But you can buy as few as two days regardless of the length of your stay.

So if you already have other tickets you can buy the minimum of two days. If some members of the party already have tickets they can gift them or save them.

Sorry, let me clarify....

In order to get the free dining, we needed to purchase the 2 day tickets for everyone in our party. My grandmother is going with us, to stay at the resort, and will be eating using the free dining, but will not be going to the parks with us. They told us we could upgrade the rest of the party once we got there to the 5 day tickets. We will not need the 5 days for my grandmother.

So, what I was wondering is if I could use her 2 days worth of tickets that are attached to her so that I would then only need to upgrade to one additional day to get my 5 days.

Yes it would work but if you know what "bad bargain" means then you will have made a bad bargain for yourself.

Upgrading your own ticket by three more days (to get to 5) costs about ten dollars more than upgrading by one additional day (to 3). Meanwhile "her" two days worth of tickets cost somebody about one hundred sixty dollars.

Ok that's what I thought you meant and yes, you can upgrade everyones ticket separately after you arrive and one person could use the grandma ticket in addition to his/her ticket.

However it is a better value to save the two day for a future trip if you will be heading back to WDW.

I am just curious why she is not going to the parks? As seen in previous posts, using her pass for you instead of upgrading is not saving that much money. She wouldn't need to go everyday, but it might be worth it even if she went with you for just a little while, or to have a meal in the parks with you. Is she planning on eating at POP for every meal? I noticed you went from POR to POP, so I think your free dining plan may have also changed to the Quick Service. Did you upgrade back to the dining plan that has table service meals?

I know this is a lot of questions, and I am not trying to be nosy, but I could see my mom saying something like "I am not interested in paying to go into the parks". But for $10 you save (not sure on the exact price) by using her ticket, then maybe she would enjoy it.

Hope you have a great trip.

I'm wondering how your grandma will be able to use the dining plan if someone else is using her ticket? Every time we went to eat, they used our KTTW to deduct the meals. I'm sure that someone else can use her ticket for the park admission, but I'm not sure that grandma will be able to eat (outside the park without you there) if she doesn't have a KTTW? Maybe they have changed things since last year and someone else can clarify.

I have begged and pleaded with my grandmother to join us in the parks! She is just not having it! We are taking ODD to BBB and the Cinderella's Castle for lunch, and my 3 YDD's will be getting their first haircuts. I told her it would be great for her to be there for this, then she could go back to the resort, still, she is not going to join us at the parks.

So, I can save her two tickets.....that is another thought.

My grandmother made it very clear that she wanted the dining plan, so that is why we are taking this route. She is also planning on eating the QS meals for the entire trip, as she doesn't eat a lot, and doesn't want to worry with going to the sit down restaurants. (I am making her go to Chef Mickey's on the first night with us.) She said that way we will have more "nice" meals, when she just doesn't have an interest in them.

I am going to make sure to take her to DD and some of the other resorts to get some "different" meals, so its not as if she will be eating at Pop for all her meals.

My grandmother sees her role as a "babysitter" and is only going to "help with the kids." She will read, watch tv, and relax while we have all three girls with us at the parks.

Also, if I save the tickets for future use, it would be a loss of the money when we "upgrade" the tickets at anytime, I can't imagine only going to parks two days ever, it is way to much money to go to Disney if I'm only going for two days to the parks.

You can have the park pass issued separately - it doesen't have to be on her KTTW card. So you would have one ticket with the 2 days admission and Grandma would have her KTTW for the room, charging and and dining but it won't get her admission to the parks.

We often do this as we have annual passes and save the park pass for another visit.

No if you save the tickets for future use you get the current gate price of 2 days not the $ you paid. So if you take a trip in the future you have two days paid for an can upgrade to the number you will need on the next trip.

Check the stickys for ticket info ~ I think they are at the top of the theme parks board. I would read up on upgrades and cost out the $ to upgrade your ticket to a 5 day vs upgrading it to a 3 day plus the cost of grandmas's 2 day.

.

You know, sometimes our grandparents do not want to be burdens and bow out of somethings that they view as holding others back,
My dad was always like that.

But we got a scooter and even when Dad was very ill we took him everywhere. We knew we would not have him forever, and if gram wanted to take a down day to lay at the pool under the shade of trees great....

But make sure it is not just being accomadating. Don't stand at the park and wish gram was there or fretting about her.
We rent scooters for the week, or for 4 days to keep cost down.

I remember my Dad not wanting to go to Niagara Falls, he never thought it would appeal to him. That is one of my most memorable trips in my life.
We were on the Maid of the mist, the spray that day was flying at us, Dad took his glasses off, held on to a mast type pole, faced the spray and let his self be dreshed with the first time I ever saw a magesitic peaceful smile on him. It is embedded in my memories for ever. Dad is gone nearly 9 years but that trip and the fun he had on the silly transpot system, hoping on and off, staying at the campground making friends with the owner (which is now a Great Wolf Lodge), seeing the grandchildren at arcades, go carts,

Life is about making memories, not sitting in a hotel room unless she is an invalid.

Bless you all, and don't look back at the trip with a glimps of regret later in life.

That gave me goosebumps - thanks for taking the time to share it :)

Thank you so much for sharing such a precious memory! This is so precious....This story brought tears.

I'm going to continue to try to get her to go with us. I think a lot of it is her being accomodating. I'm hoping as we get closer she will change her mind.

I think saving the tickets makes the most sense, as we are hoping to go back next year.

Awesome advice!:thumbsup2

I agree with the other posters about trying to get Grandma to come to the parks with you. She may be feeling like she will be a burden or hold you back in some way. However, disney is so accomodating and great for all ages, that it would be a shame for her to miss out by sitting back at the hotel.

I noticed in your signature that you have young kids. Could you maybe coax her to come to the parks with you at least some of the time by saying that you need help with the kids in the park? That may make her feel like a helper rather than a hindrance? You didn't mention her age or how mobile she is but you could rent her a scooter if necessary. I'm sure she would love to watch the smiles on your children's faces and to experience some of the joy of disney with them.

My grandmother is 82, and very mobile. She actually babysits my two YDD's while I am at work. She also manages to keep my house "picked up" during their nap times! She is very mobile. We would not need a scooter, I really think that she thinks she would be in the way, and also, she just doesn't get into the whole thing.

When I asked her to come to Disney with us, I did it for two reasons, My DD's all LOVE her to death, and I figure the more memories they can make with her the better, and also, to help with the kids during nap times, and in the afternoons. Also, I thought it would be great if she could watch our DD's while we go visit some friends. (We use to live in Orlando, and have lots of friends that still live there.) I do not ever leave my kids with anyone, except my family, so there is no way I could imagine leaving them with a sitting service. (I'm sure their great, but, I just couldn't do it...My ODD has sensory disorder and my MDD has a million food allergies.)

I am hoping my ODD can be in with me on the coaxing.

Thank you for the blessed remarks,

Your grandma sounds a lot like the grandma I am now. I would sit out and watch the kids, let others go on.....save the money.....
I could never convince Dad to go to Disney when he had his health. By the time we planned to take him to Cape canaveral, everglades boat ride, he was diagx with cancer,,,,,

Life is precious for the children to remember the trip with their grandma, her ooo's and ahhhh's over them, get g'ma a scooter, decorate it up, make a map of a few Interest items for her....She must remember the worls fair in NY 1960's, the carosel of progress, Its a Small World, Make a big deal for a picture with a hug from Eyore or Goofy...I have a special memory of Goofy he is my special friend forever now.....

Epcot_Lady_1_copy-1.jpg

This is a picture of my oldest dd Born on Mothers Day. The picture was provided to me by Disney with no cost 3 months after the experiation of our photopass that had about a dozen pic's on it.....

For my dd funeral. This was her last trip.

Three months after our visit she passed away unexpectly at 29. When I had contacted Disney by email to see if we could locate those pictures they called me and sent by email picture of her, then mailed a CD for us to have the memories from that trip.
I was crying so hard thanking them and the woman said, that is What Disney is about MAKING MEMORIES....

That is why I guess it hits me for grandma to understand, her best way to make it easier, is to create memories in those families memories they will hold forever. Getting hugs from the charaters, running through the water fountains, flying with Dumbo....What ever it takes.

Back to Goofy, my son took me as the baby sitter on a trip, well a helper not really a baby sitter, the year I lost my darling Angel.
We wefre in the barn for the character greet. After the youngest dd went up for a picture Goofy waved me over for a picture....I must have had a sad face because he gave me a hug, Tears in my eyes I told him, Thank you so much my friend....you made me smile. He hugged super and held my hands to his chest and head to mine.....It was a magic moment for me....

Disney is the most special place on earth for me as I can forget to be everything for everybody,,,, I can be a kid, I can remember the class trip to the Worlds Fair, watching Walt in Color finally on Sunday night....

I am only 55 and have to do Disney in a scooter or walker. I fussed about the scooter that I would be a bother the first trip....Now I realize how much more we can do, plus it hold a cooler with water and Kool Aid pouches, jackets, snacks,

I have a gdson now almost 5 that wants me to go auto train and sleep in the car with him. I kept saying no I will save the money and buy the $72 bargin flight,,,,,This post I ate my own words! I will take the train and give a memory to my grandson.

My younger dd 14, this is the first she is willing to travel and leave the home, bad anxiety/panic....she felt better being on a plane direct for 2 hrs. A recent trip to local Steamtown park showed the pullman cars, the OLD ONE's.

So she was bought a ebags, mother lode, and reading sites about the train,
Making a new memory with our little man, even though we miss our sweetheart sooooo much.

Our heart has a hole that can never be repaired like it was, but it certainly has a place to fill with new blessings.

GRANDMA PLEASE GO.
Di
PS edited to add, I saw grandma's age. It is exhausting doing the walking for young and healthy, the standing in lines. GET THE SCOOTER or her age a wheel chair. Make her believe this is what will make the trip. The chair will hold a cooler, bags, and be a seat whenever where ever she needs it.
Even if she goes, just for those 2 day, the hotel on site has loaner wheel chairs...It is NOT about pride, it is doing what we need to do for the best adventure.

Tell her the 2 day ticket comes with the package so why not just come to the parks with us twice, even if just for part of the day. Then if she likes it you can upgrade her pass as needed - prior to the end of that 2nd day :)

I just want to add a little extra encouragement about trying to get your grandmother into the parks. I like to think that at least part of my Disney addiction was planted by my grandparents who I think enjoyed going as much as I did! They took numerous trips by themselves in their motorhome probably until they were about 70. They even took my grandma's "elderly aunts" on a trip one year! The aunts were probably in their 80s and loved it! My grandfather loved to see all the flowers; if your grandma likes flowers and gardens, Disney is top-notch. My parents and uncles/aunts even sent my grandparents on a 50th-anniversary trip to WDW, all expenses paid to stay at the Poly and they loved every minute of it. Definitely encourage your grandmother and tell her many many older people go to WDW every year and love it. Help her find the kid inside!
