Can we tip the concierge at the AKL?

Hi fellow Disers! I did a search on this topic, and I'm finding conflicting information on this subject. Some people say you can tip the concierge, and others say that Disney's concierge can't accept tips.

Our trip is not until November, but I've already received excellent pre-trip planning service from the AKL Concierge staff. Therefore, I'm sure we will want to provide some nice gesture to the staff. I know that most people prefer cash, but if the concierge staff is not allowed to accept it, would a small gift be appropriate? (something like a nice box of chocolates or chocolate covered fruit?) Any other ideas?

If they are allowed to accept cash, what amount is appropriate? Do you give it to them on their last day or do you give them a certain amount each day?

Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer! :D

Of course you can't say that I told you this-

A gift would be most appropriate. Candy or cookies, or maybe a restaurant gift certificate?
I asked a CM in Concierge about this last year, and was told that they have to refuse a tip 3 times. So if you offer it a 4th time......

They do marvelous work, and should be recognized in some way!!

Hope this helps.....:p

My wife carves ostrich eggs as a hobby. She's really quite an artist. We were considering carving a Lion King themed or AKL logo into an ostrich egg as our gift for the concierge. But if they can take tips we'll probably just do that.

Are there any iconic things that say AKL to you besides the logo?

Flower- Great information! I guess I'll just have to be really persistent (sp?). ;)

indigo- What a really special gesture! I'm sure the CMs would be so touched by a special homemade gift! Hmmm...your ideas for the carvings seem really nice. When I think of the AKL, I think of giraffes and zebras roaming the savannah. Maybe she could carve a little African landscape, or something like that.

I'd love to hear from others, too, if anyone else would like to add to this post!

Thanks, Disers!! :D

We also read on these boards that concierge staff is supposed to refuse a tip 3 times. When we were at the AKL in February, there was one concierge CM who was really working hard and doing a super job. MY DH offered her a tip and she declined it. He then said, "pretend I've asked you 3 times, please take this." At that point she did, very graciously, accept the tip.

I always bring a box of Godiva chocolates for the entire concierge staff to share. That way no one gets left out.

Anne
