Can we talk dessert party?

We did this last week. We scooted out of the garden and over to the Terrace immediately after the show ended, and had plenty of time to eat a few desserts and have a glass of wine, and be back into the rides at 9.
Thanks for the feedback. That sounds great :)

i did the dessert party for enchantment at mk a few day ago, pre party. i had a negative experience. we were in the garden area, not terrace seating. i am short, 5"1. I had a large speaker obstruction right dab in the middle of my vision of the fireworks to the right of the castle. i couldn't move my standing area view because it was so packed in the garden area itself. people staked out their garden spot 45 minutes before it began, so they must've been post party people while pre party people like me were leisurely eating desserts thinking there wouldn't be issues. there were verbal fights in the garden between guests over various issues (2 arguments that i saw myself). i did this party pre covid and it was much more crowded and not worth the costs at all.

We were hoping to stay at the back fence and not go up to the front fence which seems more crowded.

Verbal fights over standing area? Maybe people were too drunk?

We are doing an after party and I know they take after party guests to the Plaza garden first. I’ll make sure to checkin ASAP

What time did you check in? We have a dinner reservation right before. Is there a set time they walk you over to the Plaza garden? Did you see people arriving after (before the pre party crowd?). We want to be able to have a bit of space for the younger kids who are not vaccinated (one is <2, so doesn’t wear a mask). I can turn the stroller around but don’t want her facing people that could cough directly on her. There are very few pictures of the crowds. Is there a restaurant behind the fence or a sea of people?

I was going off of the following review on dfb :

I think we checked in right around 7, they do not walk you over at that time, you just get your wristband and go to the garden yourself. We always sit along the back fence and had no problem doing so, and were not at all crowded back there. This was the first time we have done where they actually kept the area behind the back fence clear of people.

What im taking from reading through this thread is that the overall experience seems to be better on Boo Bash nights when they don't offer the post party group. Primary complains seem to be based around nights when there is a pre and post party group, with the pre party groups having a hard time getting space (because they are eating their deserts, while the post party group is already claiming their space in the garden area). We are booked for a night with only a pre-party. Hoping that trend continues into the Christmas After Hours events.

We ultimately booked this primarily to not be elbow to elbow with other guests, and our thinking was that with the Very Merriest After Hours Party that night, the hub will be even more jam packed with the usual day guests, and the party guests filtering into the park at 7. Hoping we made the right decision, and interested to see feedback once the Holiday party starts up.

I think this is the key here. On party nights they have only half the guests in the garden area as they normally have, meaning a lot more room. I'm also looking at booking this on a Christmas party night. At first I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend the evening in MK on a party night because of the crowds, but this seems actually seems like a real advantage.

I don’t think they reduce the number of guests by half, maybe some percentage based on seats at the terrace

nope not drunk

Well that just convinced me we don’t need to be doing the dessert party. We did it a few years ago and it was decent, but still expensive for what it was I thought. But if they’ve removed items from what it was then, then no way is it worth it. And the new projection show sucks compared to HEA anyways so I’m not sad about missing it.
We've been to the HEA party a few times before.

I was watching a review of the new dessert party and noticed that the menu was drastically reduced?

It appears Disney removed the following?
ooey gooey toffee cake w/ Ice cream
roasted marshmallows station
build your own cupcake station
cookies and brownies area
seems to be a few less selection of desserts also.

non-dessert foods removed?
cheeseburger eggrolls
Spanish dip

So it looks like Disney removed a ton of items, and increased the price!

My problem with it when we did it a few years ago was that when we first got to the garden area, most people were sitting down in staked out spots. I thought this would be how it would be for the show. But as the show was about to begin they directed everyone to stand up. So one minute you think you have a good view from where you have been sitting and then poof, your view is no longer good cause you have a tall person or a person hoisting their kids on their shoulders in front of you. Also they put all the wheelchair/scooter people in front of the garden area so you have all the people that are accompanying them standing up in front of the garden too. I felt bad for people with kids behind me. I could tell they were upset cause people in the back of the garden got screwed with the views I felt. I don’t think they were expecting we’d all be standing at show time. It’s just not what I thought it was going to be. I was hoping it would be a non stressful way to get a good spot, and there was still stress involved once things went from people sitting to standing.

Does anyone know why there aren’t any parties the week of Christmas? Will they have something special for the holidays? I can’t imagine them letting a week go by without that extra money on the busiest week of the year? I’m also hoping for a special NYE party again.. any info. Would greatly be appreciated:)

No. you're cutting into your after hours time, unless you're booking it just for the view and only eating treats for 20 mins. Other than SDMT, everything will be a walk on after 9 pm. After 30 mins SDMT wait will also go down. Its so exhausting to stay until 11 pm, but it depends on whose in your party.
I appreciate the reply as well, since I was wondering the same thing. What about doing the pre-event party. Would that make sense if we want to watch the fireworks? Or is it better to do the party another night and skip the fireworks altogether to hit rides during that time?

this time, they told us as we entered the garden, that everyone would be required to stand up for the show.

If it’s extended hours I’d do a pre party. That’s what I had booked originally when we had AKL resort reservation and access to extended hours; we changed to AOA-Nemo as we have kids that won’t stay up that late, no discounts and Genie+ and LLIA is adding $1,200-1,400 (Originally I had BOG dinner after fireworks).

If you don’t have park reservations, I would do after party (stressful enough to get in at 7)

I just do not understand why people cannot sit if they want to, this seems silly. More people can see this way. And if the issue is there to many people, then they need to have less people in the first place cause no one paid 100 bucks to be that crowded.

I cannot answer the sitting question, but we did the after party last week, stood in the back, and no one in the back half was crowded. We had plenty of space.

yes, correct, kids on shoulders of parents. thankfully cm asked them to come down before show began. you paid all this money to have a view of a kid on dad's shoulders? thankfully not this time but that was tense for a few minutes before he came with many angry guests in the garden including me.

I booked an After party on an EMH night that we plan to hop to MK from AK. 11/24 the day before TG.

We were not planning to arrive at MK before 6, is that a bad choice? Is there a chance we won’t be allowed to hop in at that later time?
