Can we take DDP off our tickets?

We added the DDP to our tickets for our May 07 trip when we booked in August . Anybody know if we can have the DDP taken off - we haven't paid anything but $200 so far. Thanks - I'm just not sure if this new menu is going to work for us. If we're buying off the adults' menu for kids why pay for both ddp and oop. Thanks!

I think you should get a lot more information before you make any changes based on what you've read here. A lot of confusion has stemmed from the early reports -- in some cases some people thought that the change affected every single Disney restaurant, when that is not the case, and some people thought that the changes were far more draconian than they really are. After all of what I've read, I've concluded that things really haven't changed much at all. There were relatively few choices before for children -- there are relatively few choices now for children. The absolute number of choices doesn't appear to have changed much, at all. The most significant change seems to be some unhealthy options removed, and some healthy options added.

Kids choices always seemed pretty limited to us anyway, so Bicker is sounding more and more like the voice of reason on this subject!

I can see no problem in you being able to remove the DDP portion of your package, if that's what you decide. Wait a little bit to see what transpires for the kid's menu's. Then make your choice.

I went back to my trip planning notes and kids ddp was $12/day $84 for our stay so even if we have to buy 1 or 2 meals oop - most of the time we'll be using ddp. So no real big deal. I'll keep my eyes on the boards but it looks like I won't be taking ddp off just because of a few changes. Thanks for your responses!

I agree with you. Kids are really nearly free on the dining plan. If you are going to be doing character meals and buffets for some of your meals, then these changes won't even concern you.

My kids ordered their own meals at the 2 table service meals we had that weren't buffets or family style- but really, there was plenty of food on the 2 adult orders that we could have supplemented their lunch/dinner without any problem and not spent a dime to do it.

Crazy question and please don't fireball me. I am a dvc member and have ddp for my first 2 day reservation then swith to another hotel but don't have ddp. I thought I would try it first. Could I add it on and if it doesn't work for me just cancel it when I check in on a Sunday? MS is closed on Sun so I don't know if this is how they do it. Thanks

And keep in mind that sometimes it is worth it to use the Kids Credit to get the drink and sides/dessert even if they don't like the entree, and pay OOP for a suplemental entree. I did this at several CS places.

I just read on another thread that they want this menu in all the restuarants by the end of the year. I think I might take the ddp off my tickets also. My kids will not eat what is on that menu and i don't want to pay for something they are not going to eat. My will have a van so we could go and eat off site if we wanted to. This was the first time that we were going to try the ddp. Not sure what to do.

Thanks for the heads up - I will keep my eyes on the boards and see what happens. I hope its not true but it probably is. I guess I need to schedule more buffets and not sit down. We're staying at VWL - maybe I'll just buy more groceries - YUCK!!!

well I am disappointed. We were on the dining plan last Christmas and are planning another trip in April and had planned to do the same. I gotta say that this makes me rethink even staying on property as one of the perks for me was to have the dining plan. I have 4 kids, 2 of whom are considered adults. No way the 2 little ones are going to eat fruit while their sibs get ice cream.

and dang, I was going to do premium this time but there doesn't seem to be advantage to doing that either.

It can be done, but it would be much easier to make a change before you arrive. A manager needs to get involved to cancel it which, IMHO, will waste precious vacation time.

I know it's not the OPs question but I'd cancel the entire package if you don't want dining. You can generally buy the tickets for less money from some of the reputable brokers. The payment and cancellation terms are better for room reservations than for packages. I don't see what a guest gains by booking a package. A couple of souvenir luggage tags is basically it.

Never would have thought about that. The other parts of the package through AAA was free hour of watercraft of some sort, $15 off Planet Hollywood and we won't use these. If we do cancel dining I will see about canceling the package and just booking room. Thanks for the tip! :thumbsup2

Some AAA TAs add on booking fees and cancellation charges in addition to Disney's charges. Double check.
