Can We Stay Dry on Splash Mountain?

Nothing looks dorkier than wearing a poncho on a wet ride. The whole point of a wet ride is to get wet. If you want to stay dry go on the merry go round.:crutches:

Well then there are tons of dorks hanging around near Kali at least! They were all telling DD and I how smart we were and when they saw us getting ready to put the ponchos in the trash (they were the 69 cent disposables and we weren't riding again) more than one person asked to have them! Oh and DD was 15 at the time and wouldn't be caught dead in any "dork attire", so if it's teen girl approved, must be ok LOL! She is willingly packing them again to bring for this upcoming trip. Splash will be open this time, was not last year when we were there.

DD will NOT get wet on a ride, so I've never ridden Splash. I told her next trip, I'm riding it just as we leave the park one night, and she can deal with me being wet all the way back to the resort :P

You want them to turn the water off just for you? Is this a serious question? Don't want to risk getting wet? Don't ride a water ride. If you miss the rest of the attraction, so be it. You can't have everything completely your way.

I beg to differ. My daughter loves Splash, including getting wet, but I hate that aspect of it. I don't want to walk around with my hair dripping, makeup melting, and clothes drenched, so I opt to wear a poncho as my daughter's only 5 and can't ride alone.

Last week did spalsh twice, first time not wet at all, second time left hand side of body soaked, husband and daughter drenched. I would normally do the poncho thing, hubby won't but I forgot them, wanted to ride so did, wetness is down to luck I think. Had a great time in any case. Nb cannons were turned off.

Yeah, I was also wondering if the OP was trying to get at whether CM's could turn the splash effects off on request, which, of course, is a no.

Also agree with if you really don't want to get wet and don't want to do the poncho route, don't ride.

People obviously have very different definitions of what "wet" is. I have never gotten what I consider to be wet on Splash, and that includes the front row. Yeah, your face/hair might get decently wet, so I can see where if you have a lot of hair that might be annoying. But your shoes/clothes remain dry enough that it doesn't bother me on bit.
You must have never been sitting on the right side of the log and got stuck next to the waterfall, after being hit by the water cannon at the very beginning.

Not necessarily. Many people ride Splash Mt. for the entertainment, music etc., not to get wet. Splash Mt. is a ride where you might stay dry, or get slightly wet, which is more than likely, or get moderately wet at worst. Wearing a poncho here would look a little dorky. Kali River Rapids on the other hand, at best you get moderately wet, at worst you get absolutely drenched. Many people ride this ride because their younger kids want to ride it, and they go along only to be with their kids, not because they want to get wet. I wouldn't hesitate putting a poncho on here, dorkiness or not.

Im in Disney world and usually do splash early. I wear a poncho because I don't want to walk around all day wet. I could care less if people I don't know call me dorky.

Ugh! Don't get me started on Kali. That ride is the biggest ripoff at WDW.

True DAT! Especially if you've experienced GRR at DL, Kali is a huge disappointment. Its only redeeming quality is your ability to cool off for a little by getting completely drenched if its a hot afternoon.

Yep, Kali is a crappy version of a river raft ride. I'm glad Disney learned from their mistake and built a much better one at California Adventure.

I sometimes wear a poncho on water rides. Who cares if I look like a dork? I look that way all the time anyway. And if people want to laugh at my dorkiness, fine with me.

That's not what the OP was asking at all.

She wanted to know if they "turn down" the water effects during colder times of the year, not asking if they would turn the water off specifically for her.

You did not understand what I said. I did not call anyone a dork. I said wearing the ponchos looks dorky. Now there are a large amount of grown adults at WDW wearing mouse ears on their head. I also think they look dorky. But that is ok, this is a free country, anyone can look as dorky as they wish. But for me wearing a poncho on a wet ride is like wearing a welders helmet on an indoor dark ride. The whole point of the ride is to get a little wet.

Maybe they don't have different definitions of wet, perhaps they have just had different experiences than you have.

I once rode with my DD on a summer evening and was completely drenched. It was not from the "big splash" but rather from water that was sprayed directly on me on the way back up. I was soaked through my undergarments and had to take off my clothing including my socks to wring the water out of them. I actually took my shoes off upon exiting the ride and dumped water out if them. I'm fairly certain that would fit anyone's definition of wet.

Every other time I have experienced similar to what you describe, but this time it was worse than being in the direct soaking seats on Kali. CMs and guests commented about how exceptionally drenched I got. It's not the norm, but it's certainly not impossible so it's rather rude to suggest that others are exaggerating or overly sensitive when they mention getting wet on this attraction.

Well, I'm well old enough to know what wet and soaked is, and trust me, I got 'soaked' the last time I rode. I had to leave the park and go get dry clothes - yes, shoes too. I was furious - it was not a hot day!
Annoying did not begin to describe my feelings.

So, if you have not had that privilege yet - better count yourself lucky, and not speak too soon!

I do not consider Splash a wet ride, so no, I don't expect to get soaked. We used to ride it and never get more than a little splash, at most.

I don't ride Kali because I 'do' consider that a wet ride, and don't won't to walk around soaked, or have to go change clothes. I will go to a water park in appropriate clothes when I 'intend' to get wet!

My mom and I wear ponchos on Splash all the time. Frankly, when I am in Disney I'm not super worried about how I look to other people. Clearly, if I did, I wouldn't be wearing the fanny pack either!
