Can we request RICE with meals on-board?

Hello all!
We're planning for a great Disnet cruise vacation with our 4 yr old daughter next MAY 2003.
I have a question...do you think we can request for RICE with our meals on-board? My daughter is a "rice eater". (We're asians and our staple food is really RICE ...LOL). My daughter is a very choosy eater , she doesn't like to eat hamburgers or pizzas, her favorite is chicken, vegetables or barbeque with RICE ...as long as RICE is present she's all set already.

DS & I are not potato eaters but love having rice with our dinner.

I wouldn't think it was a problem. My future SIL had to have wheat-free, gluten-free pasta EVERY nite because she is so picky and has Celiac Disease. DCL is so great. Just tell your server ahead of time. One night SIL didn't come to dinner and they sent it to her room!

This doesn't have to do with rice, but it reminded me of one of our previous cruises when we were seated with a mom and her little boy. Every night he made his meal on BREAD!! He would take multiple pieces from the bread basket as soon as they sat down, and she would chide him for it. But amazingly, he always ate every bit! Of course, some of those breads are so good that I don't blame him (focaccia at Animators and banana bread at Parrot Cay come to mind). The servers made sure there was always plenty for the rest of us too. I'm sure the rice would be no problem.

I had rice several times. I have some food allergies, and when in doubt, white rice is one food that I can always eat.

I'd tell DCL in advance that you'll need white rice at each meal, my bet is that they'll be able to accomodate you.

I was on the 9/7 cruise and did the galley(Kitchen) tour. We were lucky enough to have the head chef be our tour guide. I asked a question about the crew's galley, specifically, if Disney accomodates for so many cultural difference in their food tastes. The head chef said they do whatever necessary to make the staff's food choices the best possible. He mentioned white rice being a staple food option because of the number of Asian workers. He also said they have several sushi options as well. I asked so many specific questions he knew I had a culinary background. My husband and I were invited by the chef to tour the staff galley. I don't think is done very often because the staff was surprised to see us down there. Anyway, the answer is yes. They have several hundred pounds of rice on board. It is available whenever you like. If you let Disney know this is important to you they will make sure you have it. By the way, it was the cleanest galley I have ever seen. I have been in many commercial kitchens and I was amazed by the efficiency and clean atmosphere. Done the Disney way!

Woohoo! Good news for us dedicated rice eaters!

Don't know what I'd do if I had to go more than 5 days without a meal containing steamed rice! Now I just hope they make exactly how I like it best ... not too dry .. not too wet ... just that perfect inbetween!

That is definitely the staple food of this state, and we take it very seriously. Now SPAM I could go a few weeks wihtout, but never rice!

There are certain items available every night ... a steak, chicken, baked potatoes, possibly rice. It's a nice thing incase you don't like anything on the menu.

I know that hubby will definitely be asking about the sushi options, as he LOVES sushi and the offerings on the buffet are a bui too plain for him...they are vegetable rather than "real" sushi. A few cruises back, we were told by our servers that the vegetarian dishes are so good becauses there are a number of Indian cooks who are well-versed in preparing vegetarian cuisine. I can say from experience that the curries on DCL are awesome. You don't have to be a vegetarian to love them, as my red-meat-loving hubby can attest. I think that the variety of cultural backgrounds is a great benefit for the food.
