My girls want a 'Shirley Temple' on their birthday. Can I get these on the cruise? Where would I order them.
Thanks,
DJ

They do have non-alcoholic cocktails available. I'm sure "Shirley Temple" originally referred to a specific cocktail recipe although the term has evolved to mean "fancy mixed drink without alcohol". So while they may not be able to handle the specific recipe for the original drink, you can certainly look forward to ordering something fancy for her.

Shirley Temple drink is simply ginger-ale or Sprite with grenadine in it. I did see a young person with a sprite full of marascino cherries in it every night during dinner. I'm sure if you ask your server they will be happy to oblige.

Thanks! I think the 'cherries' are the key for them. They want a drink with cherries in it, and they want it to be 'pink' or 'red' in color. I wasn't sure how a Shirley Temple was made.

I will ask our server.

You'l have no problem getting Shirley Temples at dinner for your girls. My younger sister looks forward to them almost as much as much as the cruise itself I think. As for the cherries- never fear, on all 3 of our cruises, each and every Shirly Temple she has ever ordered has come with at least 5 cherries in them!

The Shirley Temple's do not cost extra - which is a bonus. You can also get a Roy Roger - coke with grenadine and cherries. My DD also likes to order milk with a bit of grenadine since she doesn't like chocolate milk (I know, a very strange child  ). She started getting this at one of the resort restaurants - I think it was Boma.

What exactly IS grenadine?? :p I've always wondered about that!

It doesn't cost extra at dinner????? REALLY????? WOW!!!! That is great! I will let them order one every night! I had told them I would buy them one for thier birthday, but if they are free at dinner, they can have one all three nights!

Thanks SO MUCH for letting me know that!

Actually, you have more options.

At sailaway they offer a strawberry/vanilla beverage that is offered in a virgin(that's the code word for non alcoholic, btw).

You can also get the konk kooler shipboard in a 'virgin' format. I know the deck 9 bars can do it.

And at dinner there are smoothies in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, banana. I prefer the strawberry ones myself. :)

From webtender.com

Grenadine (grenadine syrup) is a blood-red, strong syrup made from pomegranates. It is the number one among fruit syrups, and is used in many cocktails not only for sweetening, but also to give them a red color.

You are very welcome. DD had one waiting for her at dinner each night on the last cruise - with extra cherries, of course.

As a former bartender, I didn't know about the pomegranates (I didn't go to bartender school), but I know that it is a cherry flavored syrup. Used to add a cherry flavor or red color to alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

DS likes strawberry milk & that trick with the grenadine will probably make him happy. It will also be a nice treat for the sprite. :)

I LOVE getting these during the stage shows in the Walt Theatre!

I buy a bottle of Grenadine at Wegman's (grocery store) in Pennsylvania and add it to plain Cola.

My husband fell in love with the smoothies on board in March. He had to have one or two everyday. They are sooo good!! Does anyone know how they make them on board or what the ingredients might be?? Have one or two for us on your upcoming trip!!

I've got a bottle of Rose's Grenadine handy.
Ingredients: High fructose corn syrup, water, citric acid, natural and artificial flavors, sodium citrate, sodium benzoate )preservative), red 40, blue1.m
I guess the natural flavors would be the pomegranates.

I too am a former bartender and never knew it was made from pomies. How cool, you learn something new everyday on the DiS, Thanks TootyJane.

I use it in my Bahama Mamas.
