Can we get by without renting a locker at Typhoon Lagoon ?

Of course you can get by. Especially now with magic bands. However, it's been a long time, but the locker rooms at Typhoon Lagoon use to be extremely clean, cool and incredibly no smells. Normally locker rooms were places that I avoided at all cost, though the one at Typhoon Lagoon was totally different. Not having to keep up with anything, other than a key and a towel was very convenient. The answer to your question is probably no.

Rides to ride first. At rope drop, everyone normally races to put their towels down on chairs and the races to the water coaster. That's probably the best idea. However, on the other side of the park, right past Ketchakiddee Creek, there are 3 tube slides that are our favorites. Keelhaul falls, Mayday falls and Gangplank falls. For some reason, people will ride the first one they come to from Ketchakiddee creek which is Keelhaul falls, or Glangplank falls coming from the other direction. Mayday falls, the one in the middle, always has the shortest line. I rode it over and over again, many times without any line at all, while watching the other 2 having much longer lines. All three are basically the exact same ride.
Ok thanks for all the great information :thumbsup2

I was at TL on my own one day in March while others went to Kennedy Space Center.

I thought about getting a locker, but wanted my cell phone nearby, plus I had an e-cigarette which was tucked into my towel to avoid tracking back to the locker.

Unfortunately after doing a lap in the lazy river the towels had been taken. Cell phone in the ziplock pencil case thrown into the bushes but e-cig missing. Not what you want when on vacation.

In future I will always get a locker, as the hassle of having things taken is a much bigger problem.

Honestly when you think what you spend on the vacation is it worth the hassle of not getting one?

Personally, I would only go without a locker if I was going to: arrive on Disney transport, not take a cell phone, not take a camera, have a magic band and no cash.

Although it's sad to say it, there are a lot of people who will steal given the opportunity, even if they are on vacation.
Wow I dont know why people would take your e cigarette, towel and throw your phone in the bushes.

Same trip, I saw a big camera on a window sill outside one of the animal areas of AK. A family was having a photograph taken by photo pass photographer, I assumed it was the photographer's, they were right next to it.

We walked on through the trails looking at the birds etc, and a few minutes later the mother of the group shouted out where's the camera.

I said that I'd seen one on the window and we rushed back to find that someone had taken it. The poor lady was beside herself, it was an expensive camera, luckily it was their first day and so they hadn't lost all their photos, but I felt so sorry for them as it was obviously a sad way to start off their vacation.

I felt guilty that I hadn't said anything when I had seen it there before, but I just didn't realise it had been forgotten.

It had taken minutes for someone to obviously see it and take it, I just think there are so many people who will steal, which is very sad but it is as likely at WDW as elsewhere. No one would go to a store and leave their purse in the cart and walk off leaving it unattended, yet on vacation it somehow seems less risky.

I certainly don't want to go through the experience of having property taken again, it just spoilt my day, and made me feel uneasy for the rest of the trip.

Yes I couldn't understand it either, I had two towels spread over the chairs, with the e-cigarette tucked in the groove between the slats in the chair, so it hung down out of sight but inside the towel, same with the phone in a ziplock bag.

Came back to find the towels gone, the e-cig gone and the ziplock bag thrown into the border with my bottles of water and clothes. I searched the sand all around in case the e-cig had dropped, assuming the towels had been collected by staff. I checked with the cast members and cleaning staff and they said it would not be them collecting towels until the park closed. They even checked the towel return bin for me to see if another guest had thrown them in there accidentally, but no luck.

I was surprised and extremely glad the phone wasn't taken - one benefit of having a Blackberry is that most people have moved onto Android and iPhone and so they have little value, mine is practically an antique, but that being said I have no doubt that it would have been taken if the person removing the towels and e-cig had so wished.

I had walked over the bridge to the smoking section to use the e-cig a couple of times, so whether someone had seen me put it there, the people sitting nearest to me hadn't seen anything, but I know that when I'm at TL I zone out from what's going on around me, people tend to relax and pay no attention to other people's things.

It was annoying to say the least, but it seems a strange thing to steal, I certainly wouldn't want an e-cigarette that someone else had put in their mouth or towels for that matter.

Some people are just weird. Unless maybe it was kids .

1. We have never had an issue leaving our stuff at the chairs. We don't take anything of value other than our cell phone. We take a beach bag and wrap the strap around one leg a few times and just cover it with a towel. The rest of the chairs we just cover with towels.

2. We head to the back right corner of the park and snatch chairs under the pavilion closeset to shark reef. Do the shark reef, stop by our chairs to apply sun screen and then head to Crush n Gusher for about an hour.

3. The family raft ride at TL is terrible and a complete waste of time...

My advice would be to weigh up the potential cost both in money, time and emotional distress to your items being taken.

I got off very luckily as being from the UK it would have been very difficult to manage for the rest of my vacation if my cell phone had been taken, to be honest I had always thought the risk was minimal and that it would have been unlikely to happen to me, but having been through the experience it is not something I would risk again.

The potential loss is too great despite the low risk. It is like wearing a seatbelt, no one really likes having to wear one, the likelihood of needing it is very low, but the potential for loss if the worst does happen is massive.

It's also much easier to see the downside of not taking the safe option with hindsight.

Ok thanks for the info. Maybe we should just skip the family raft ride.

Ok maybe we should just rent a locker. I dont want to deal with the stress of stuff being stolen even if it isnt very valuable. So what do we do with the locker key when we are riding?

The keys are on a wrist strap.

I would really recommend doing it, I certainly will in future.

A small locker is $8 plus $5 deposit, plus you can keep the receipt and use the park lockers as well on the same day.

Makes life easier if you plan to go on to a park or if you have been to a park first thing.

What's a few bucks on top of what you're already spending?

I won't be making the same mistake of risking it. Most car keys cost a fortune to replace.

I think towels, clothes, shoes and water would be the only thing that I'd leave sitting around unattended in future.

Sad, but unfortunately that's just the way it is.

Also, a couple of months ago I would be in the "never had any problems with leaving things" camp.

It's different once you've been in the position of having things taken.

WE have season passes to Water Country USA, and haven't rented a locker since the first year we had them. I carry passes, one credit card and a $20 bill in a waterproof case on a lanyard. My Ford Explorer has a keyless entry, so I can just lock the keys in the truck. In our bag is just towels, change of clothes and sunblock. Leave teh cel phone in the truck.
