Can we carry-on our pins?

My 11 yo DD are I are doing a Mother-daughter trip in early August, and we love pin trading! We arrive very late in Orlando, and will spend our first night at the Hyatt. Since we are arriving so late, we don't want to spend the 45 minutes waiting for our luggage from our Southwest flight, and are planning our packing around carrying on our bags. But can we do this with our trader pins? They do have those pointy backs! I guess we would rather mail them to our resort than check our bags, but leaving them at home is not an option! Thanks for any info. Diana

Most people are saying that they are not having problems carrying on their pins. Many are saying that they are having to go through an extra check in security, but nothing terrible. To be sure check with your airline.

When are you going to be at WDW? I am bringing my cousin (9) for a girls only trip. Will you be able to be at the Friday Pin Meet at the Contemporary? Great time for everyone!

My DW and I went in May -- no problem with pins either at Chicago O'Hare or in Orlando. I put mine in my camera bag and advised security before I sent it through. No extra checks -- nothing. Pins don't seem to arouse too much interest or concern.

Every Friday night at the Contemporary Hotel, on the same floor as Chef Mickeys, I think they start at 7 pm.

I will be there the same night you are (Aug 9). Just ask for Donna or Ed. I wouldn't ask for me, Pam, nobody will know who I am! Except for Donna!

So be sure and stop by, it is a great time, I hear they have even added a kids only area.

I had no problem at Bradley Int'l in Connecticut or MCO in Orlando. Bradley is the airport that arrested the world champion boomerang thrower because she didn't want to check her plastic boomerangs.

I was actually "forced" to pack my pins when we flew from Dallas to Orlando in May. We flew Delta.... Just fyi....

We flew in June, two adults, one child, four pinbags -- all in our carry on luggage.

We had no trouble in Baltimore, Orlando, or Tampa.

I have tried several times to carry them on when flying out of Newark Airport. Each time I was told point blank to check the bag. I even had a pin on my collar to demonstrate what they were and was still told to check the bag. Once I was told to try to carry it on and when I got to security and they scanned the bag, they sent me back to the check in area to check the bag. I know that some ariports are more strict than others and Newark was one of the airports that one of the planes took off from on 9/11...maybe that is the reason.
