I saw on Facebook that the new Disney Resort being built in Hawaii now has a name: Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa.

Can we purchase DVC there yet?

No. The resort doesn't open until Fall 2011. I would guess that sales might begin late this year.

I emailed my guide earlier this week, for any info. on when sales would begin. He said he didn't know yet (yah, right), but they were predicting 12-18 months to completion. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll offer it for sale on the DVC members cruise!

I'm quite sure your guide is correct when he says they don't know yet. They keep the guides in the dark on purpose. It keeps the "rumors" down a bit. I think when they start offering depends on what the timeshare laws allow in Hawaii.

At least they admit it exists. BLT's existence was denied right up to just before sales started. Meanwhile, this huge building was under construction.

Wasn't is said that California's laws prevented selling a timeshare (VGC) until the calander year in which it would be occupiable? Depending on laws there may be no Hawaii sales until 2011. DVC could, of course, create another "first chance" club like VGC for WDW buyers this year, but that was a mostly failed experiment.

I know it is all speculation at this point, but any idea on areas or ideas for founding members?

We talked to our Guide a few weeks ago and he said he hasn't been told when Aulani will open for sales. He also said that the Guides haven't heard yet what regulations the State of Hawaii will apply regarding sales and commissions. The State of California required that in order for the Guides to receive commissions on VGC sales they had to be licensed in California and that they had to take the licensing test in California. Our Guide thought that Hawaii will also require licensing in Hawaii, but that electronic online testing may be permitted.

Yes, I have one.

Founding members will be given a custom Hula Doll, suitable for dashboard mounting.

But if its Minnie dressed up in a grass skirt and lei, then there will be 1,000 DVC members bidding on ebay trying to get one!

Sales cannot/will not begin until the resort has been declared into DVC and some of the "units" have been declared into DVC inventory for sales. Even though it has been announced as a DVC resort, it is not official until these events take place.

Eagle Pines was announced as a DVC resort and construction even began, but the resort never came to fruition. DVC announced a resort to be built in Newport Beach, CA - whichwas never built. The land for Eagle Pines has been sold to Four Seasons and the land for Newport Beach was sold to Marriott.

While I fully expect Aulani to eventually become a DVC resort, nothing is final until it's final! :)

Stay tuned! :) :)

I wonder what the DVC acronym will be? Aulani Resort and Spa - ARS, Villas at Aulani Resort - VAR, Lots of Points - $$$?

To answer a few questions I saw:

Plans for this culturally rich resort, the first phase of which is scheduled to open in fall 2011, include 481 two-bedroom equivalent Disney Vacation Club villas, called Aulani, Disney Vacation Club Villas, Ko Olina, Hawai'i.

Looks like it's two-bedroom equivalents, which means they won't all be two-bedrooms, but enough rooms to be equivalent to 481 two-bedrooms.

Also, the acronym might be ADVCVKOH. :lmao: Just kidding. Your guess is as good as mine.

What they cannot sell is unuseable interests and thus they could not sell now contracts that have annual points being issued now that would expire before the place opened. In other words whatever they sell would have to have first points issued no more than about nine to ten months (and usually less) before the resort opened so that they could potentially actually be used when the resort opened. As a practical matter, because of risk of uncertainty as to whether a resort will open on time, certain rules and financial requirements that have to be met the further out you start pre-sales, and the need to have definiteness as to public offering materials, what is actuallly going to be sold, and at what price, you are generally not going to see sales begin much longer than 6 months before the resort opens and most definitely not more than a year.
