Hypothetically, if I were able to convince my Dsis to buy into DVC too (she HAS been thinking about it), if we were to buy 175 and she were to buy 175 (in the same UY - to prevent brain cramps), could we reserve a 2BR for 350 points by "pooling" our points?

Or, if we travel together, would we have to alternate the points usage - her one year, us another...

One option would be for one of you to "Transfer" your points to the other in a given Use Year. Then that one person could make the reservation for the full vacation, rather than having to split up the points and days between you.

You can certainly make half a vacation with one person's points and the other half with the other.

The problem comes from not being able to split the points for any one particular night..for instance for a 5 night reservation, you can not reserve 2 1/2 nights each, it would have to be split 3/2 or 2/3. Remember that you are only allowed one transfer per use year, in or out, not both. So really, using one persons points every other year for a joint trip would be the simplest solution. If that isn't possible, then one of you could transfer 1/2 the total points required for the trip to the other...but it would use up the annual transfer for both of you.

One other thought...

If your length of stay is an odd number of days and you have a Friday or Saturday night stay, pay cash for Friday or Saturday and split the cost. No transfers to worry about, and you'll save a good number of points to use for next year!!! :woohoo:

Though we always use our points, my BIL and SIL NEVER use their points for Friday and/or Saturday night stay. They have almost always been able to make a cash reservation with their DVC discount (25% off rack rates).

FWIW, some of our very best DVC vacations have been with our family! In fact, they are the reason we purchased.

Thanks for the responses! They're all good ideas... DH and I actually enjoy traveling with my sister & her family - they're easy going, we like the kids, and we know that we can split up if we get sick of each other without hurting each other's feelings. We went to WDW last year together, are going again next year (both times with connecting rooms in the values), and we're already planning for next year at a 2BR in either BCV, WLV, or BWV (either by renting, or hopefully we'll be owners!)

Dsis and her hubby had gone through the tour while they were in DL Paris, and almost bought in. Right now they've got other plans (like a new kitchen), but since she was a CP graduate, I KNOW she loves Disney as much as we do!
