Okay, I need experts! :) My DH, baby, and I are going to WDW next year and arriving a day before my parents. We'll have seperate reservations than them. Can my family have the DDP and my parents not have the DDP and eat together at the same table and just get two bills at the end of dinner?

Thanks!

Jen

Are they staying in a separate room, and, to be absolutely safe, do you each have different reservation numbers? Then, yes.

One more question,

If we want to give my parents a bite of our appetizer or dessert would it be okay or is that considered a no no? We won't be sharing entrees with them, but they are both diabetic and don't want all the extra food that comes with the DDP. They'd probably both love to sample a bite of it though.

We (a family with DDP) shared our appetizers & deserts with family members (who were not on DDP & had arrived later in the week) at two TS & several CS restaurants. They had a seperate check and paid for their own entree & drink. This was in May of 06 & the waiters brought extra spoons/forks for us.

That would be fine. Your server doesn't care.

The rules prohibit sharing the Dining Plan, not individual meals. It basically means you cannot use your Dining Plan credits for meals for those other family members, but eating from each other's plates is fine.

Not a problem but do the arithmetic. Bicker did an analysis that showed his family saving money with the dining plan even if they didn't order any appetizers or desserts.

So can I just order myself two meals and share?

Good point. I did my own analysis of eating at Boma, Coral Reef and Le Cellier for 2 Adults and 1 Child using the DDP verses using my DDE 20% discount card and ordering only 1 appetizer and 1 dessert to share. The DDP would cost me $267 for 3 days. The 3 meals with shared apps and desserts and 20% off would cost me $261. For $6 more I have 9 Counter Service meals and 9 snacks.

The servers at some restaurants will limit your DDP order to the maximum listed on your card. Your card will say something like 2A1C. The server will only let you order 2 adult meals and 1 child meal.

Those are my credits to use as I wish - if I want to eat five meals in one night I can.

Most likely they're interpret that as simply a measure to violate the rules, but you'd really have to ask them. It's something that only Disney can answer for you.

actually they have, thanks

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1189367 is the DIS policy on these kinds of discussions.

I was not allowed to use my credits to treat other family members at Chefs de France. I was only allowed to use DDP credits to pay for two meals since my card said 2A. My resort confirmed that policy prevents you from using your credits to treat others.

There is a difference between eating five meals for yourself and using your dining credits to order 5 meals for others.

Discussion now on a topic only WDW can answer. The original question has been answered.
