Can this be done with expiring points?

Our add-on comes with 50 BWV points that expire 2/28/05. Since they weren't costing maintenance fees, we weren't concerned. We really were interested in our '05 and forward points, we have March UY.

If it were possible to find someone who had a late February reservation and was interested, could the points be transfered this late in the year, or is there a deadline for doing that?

I would think they could be transferred. I don't remember anything about not transferring in the last 30 days before points expire.

Do you have any interest in exchanging points for one of the II resorts? If so, talk to MS about the "late deposit" process. Perhaps that would work for you. You'd have to add points to reach the required number, of course.

You might also see if there is any availability anywhere for a few consecutive nights - especially if it were a weekend. You'd have to advertise a "fire sale", but you'd probably get something for it. Must be someone who'd be able to do a last minute weekend trip!

You see, we were called about this add on last Thursday night and we were in Orlando last weekend. DH called MS regarding these points last Friday and a CM told him that they were only like phantom points, because there was so little time left until March, and there was the "waiting period" for timeshares, we really couldn't use the points. This answer contradicted our guide who, because she knew we were going to be in Orlando, told us to call MS to see if there was a late ressie we could get. We were on "vacation" and we didn't give it another thought until coming home. I called our guide who said that we really could use these points and perhaps that the CM needed to talk to a coach.

So here we are. My idea is to somehow get the points to someone in return for a donation to Give the Kids the World. But, the contact in that organization wasn't at the phone, so I'm waiting for a return call. I understand that there is no tax deduction for the giving of a night's stay, but perhaps a cashiers check donation would give someone a tax deduction. Anyway, these are just thoughts right now. I'm waiting for GTKTW to call.

I've called my guide to verify that, but it looks like I'll go with making the ressie and seeing if anyone wants it.

They must be banked or borrowed points which cannot be transferred.

IF they had been banked or borrowed, it wasn't by me. They were just put into my account Feb. 3rd, as add on points bought from DVC. My guide says that they can't be transferred because that contract hasn't closed yet. The points can be used, by Feb. 28th but not transferred.

It sounds like you purchased this add-on directly thru DVC?

While you can use the points for a reservation immediately, until closing, DVC usually won't allow borrowing or transferring of those points.

If it was purchased as a resale, you can't do anything until closing and entry into the computer (not even make a reservation).

Sounds like renting a reservation wil be your best bet.

Based on my actual experience in a similar situation, they absolutely will not let the points be transferred until your closing has taken place.

If it's a direct purchase, you're stuck for closing but can still rent out the points yourself.
