Can they really do this?

Now you're not making any sense. There are two issues - distance and MONEY!!!

To answer your question about if it can be done, sounds like it can...if you've got the money.

This is your quote....Saying that if you have the money, it can be done. having the money has nothing to do with having a party at the Beach Club at all....That is all i am saying...

As far as distance, that is up to the people who have to drive it...again no one is forcing anyone to go..simply an invitation..all people have to say is NO

I was thinking the same thing in response to that comment! Its not like you said you had to pay an extravagant amount per child or pay a fee to hold the party. Your explaantaion of the party details sounded much more reasonable than what I had imagined in my head. Oh and I am very jealous about the kitchen sink. I've always wanted to get it, but everytime I go the people with me wimp out and we order something else:sad1:

The kitchen sink is great..picture 12 little 6-7 year old kids with this big sink in front of them, and just going crazy eating it all!!! Make sure next time you go, not to let anyone eat for a few hours before you go there, and try to make them get it with you..LOL

Yikes! This is going way off topic.

All I was asking was could the parents invite the kids to the pool for a party.

And, was it strange that the parents would invite people to go that far for a party.

Beejie

I agree with this going off topic. You were asking if this is "Legal" by Disney standards and it got into a topic of money. Guess by the sounds of it other people have done it so it is legal. Everyone has different views on money and no one will ever agree.

OP I am a little surprised the BC allows non-guests to use Stormalong Bay, also! My sis and I were there on a chilly, uncrowded day in March. she had left her room key up in the room, and had to go all the way back up to get it before they'd give her a wrist band. I would have NOT liked it, if I had found out that 20 non-guest children and their families had been allowed in without even being overnight guests!

To the pp who booked the extra room, that was a very good idea! Problem is, wouldn't you have to book enough rooms to have a keycard for each swimmer? Like, if 20 people showed up, pay for 4 rooms (5 keycards in each)?

:confused3

Ok, I am massively confused, what is the big deal about a 90 minute drive?

I guess those of us in California have a different mentality about driving, by the way it would cost about $30 round trip from Long Beach to San Diego for us at about 20 MPG, which is also a 90 minute drive, so really I don't see the problem with this.

As for the PP, note that they said they talked with the hotel manager first, so I would assume that they did not need room keys for each person.

Beejie, don't feel the need to justify yourself to the responses on this board. I really don't think they were judging you. I think we all agree that you know what is best for your family. I hope that you have a lovely weekend at the boy scout event.

Beejie, i was just commenting on the topic at hand. Nothing at all towards you. I hope you have a great time at the Boy Scout event, and also when you vist Disney in September!!! I love going to the parks in September because they are usually not busy and the weather is so nice!!!! Enjoy!

Thanks. For a while after the thread got side tracked, I was feeling a little guilty for not taking DS 10 to the party. But it just wasn't feasable.

We do have a lovely CUB Scout event set up for that day doing miniature golf, lunch, golf lessons and free use of the batting cages in Floral City near where we live. We get a price break because we pick up the trash around the mini golf course, etc. DS 10 and DS 6 (who is about to join Cub Scouts on May 1) will both earn their golf belt loop for participating.

As for the 90 minute drive - its not a great distance, I agree, but I think its a lot to ask of people, most of whom don't know you, to go attend a birthday party in a pool (albeit a very very very nice pool).

DD will turn 8 in 2 weeks and we're having a lovely gathering with all her friends (Brownies, Classmates and church) at a local park with a huge playground. It has a Hannah Montana / Rock ' n ' Roll theme and have asked the guests to bring canned goods for our church's food pantry in addition to a smaller gift for DD. I hope that goes over well.

Thanks! I will call the parents organizing the party tonight to ask how they are doing it when I send my regrets.

Beejie - I don't see why you need to make your reasons known for not going. It's your choice.

It's three hours of driving for a two hour party. Plus arraigning for care for your other two children. I don't see this as a choice of money more than a choice of time, which is more important than a tank of gas.

Thanks Disnut8. I didn't spell out my reasons initially, but felt I needed to as the thread got longer.

Believe me, if I could go to the pool party, I would.

As it is, my DS 10 and DS 6 (and hopefully DD 8) will have a blast minigolfing, etc. DS 6 will be so proud to earn his first belt loop.

I copied this information from www.allearsnet.com I'm betting that there's a "pool usage add-on" available for the kids' club birthday package options.

There looks to be a lot of options for hosting a child's birthday party at WDW... and many of them don't seem any more expensive than what we would pay for a theme party here in Atlanta. I would think these would be fairly popular with Orlando area residents.

Let's stay on topic here if we can please. In a couple of places we veer WAY off...

Thanks.

Knox

It's an invite, accept or not. It's not a command. Don't make such a big thing of it.

Oh - I want to have a party at one of those locations. I have been searching the wedding boards - hoping for a wedding at WDW next year. I read about someone that did the Winter Sumerland Golf Party as her welcome part for both adults and kids.

Linda

Beejie - Your plans will be just as fun for your kids.
I am surprirised that they do Birthday parties there as well.
The prices are actually very comparable to parties here in NJ. Actally Now that I think of it Our local party Gym type place wants $280 for 12 kids on a weekend. I would choose driving 90 minutes over that in a heartbeat.
As for asking the guests to drive that far, it really depends on your lifestyle. We often drive 2 hours to get to family and friends parties. So it wouldn't bother us.
I guess that's why we can drive 17 hrs to WDW every year - some people think that's crazy too!
I hope your children have a wonderful time at their scouting event. It sounds like your son may not have had the best time anyway.

Hi gang! My DS 10 was invited with his entire 4th grade class to a birthday pool party at the Beach Club Resort at Disney on 4/28. We live 90 minutes away so I'm shocked that the parents would ask people to drive this far for a two hour party when the average price of gas in our county hovers near $3 a gallon.

Anyway, can you stay at a resort and invite 20 families to come and join you for a party at the pool? Just curious.

It breaks my heart that we can't go because its the only way I could probably afford to visit the Beach Club, but we have Cub Scout plans that day that are free and local.

I have heard of parties like this at Disney and my guess is that the parents are assuming everyone will carpool. I personally don't think the drive is that bad or that a party like this is over the top. It was nice for your son to be invited, his feelings may have been hurt if he wasn't.

Have a great time at your Scout outing. Those are always fun too. I enjoyed them when my DS was in scouts.:)

Just wanted to say thanks for supporting your son in Scouting as many boys in our pack put Scouting at the end of their list of activities

and

Hi  from a fellow Den Mother (at all ranks) and Cubmaster - :scared1:

I asked my 8 yo son if he would like to have his party at David Buster's. It is in Long Island, about an hour drive. He said "Mom I don't think the parents will want to drive that far." So it's not only adults who may think a 90 minute drive to a kiddie party is a little far. I actually mean that he could take his cousins with us, not his whole class.
