Just curious. We have the Kids Stay Free Pkg booked for April. In case I am able to save a little extra $, can the tickets from a package be updated to AP's?

Thanks and have a great night.

Yes, I beleive that they apply the price of the UPH toward the cost of APs. You should call to verify that though.

hmm, I was told by a travel agent that UPH that are part of a package can not be upgraded, unlike a regular UPH, so I would check this out with disney.

jann1033 is correct. Any UPH purchased as part of a package is not upgradeable.

Any UPH purchased with a room only reservation or at resort check-in is upgradeable.

Disney will upgrade any ticket...for a price. However, it can't hurt to ask. We once got 3 AP renewals for $0.11 per AP (that's right 33 cents total)! WDW has ticket deals that they don't always publish.

Trust me, when it comes to ticket knowledge, Golden Oldie knows the skinny on it. And, if there was any way around upgrading a UPH which is part of a package, Golden Oldie would know about it.

And as a back up to Golden Oldie's facts (not that it is really necessary) from Deb's site: I am getting a Unlimited Park Hopper when I go to Disney this time. Can I have this upgraded to an annual pass if I decide I want to return before a year is up?

Yes and no. Yes if you purchase your UPH at resort check in or add to a room only reservation prior to arrival. Your AP will be backdated to the first day of the UPH. No if you purchased your UPH as part of a specially priced vacation package (Dream Maker, Fairytale, etc). Tickets that are part of a package are never upgradeable.

It does not hurt to ask. You might be surprised. Ticket upgrades don't always show up on Deb's or Mousesavers, etc. Think a little less of you and little more of others.

Actually, I was thinking more of others. Not quite sure where that crack came from. The intent of this board is to help others and make them aware of the rules. Golden Oldie has an incredible amount of knowledge regarding tickets and what can be done. I would take Golden Oldies word and quotes from another other sources as gospel. They spend an incredible amount of time researching. Hurt to ask, nope, not at all.

Golden Oldie's wealth of information on WDW tickets and upgrades IS a treasure here on the DIS. :)

But none the less, it DOES never hurt to ask. It only costs you your time.

The "experts" on this board only let people know what to expect.

mind if I ask what the circumstances of that were? and when( like 1802 or recently, Just kidding)

goldenOldie ( since many agree she is the authority!)or anyone who knows . does it cost anymore to upgrade an upgradable pass? my thought is buy the one for 7 day php with the breakfast voucher then upgrade to AP and still have the voucher. shipping would be 7.50 per but I would still come out about $10 per ticket if the up grade price is no more than $90..so how do they determine up grade price and also since I 'm asking and a little off topic already, where do you go to get Aps validated..will they charge you parking if you have to go to apark to do it and if you can do it at a resort if you have the ap rate you would need to do it pre check in? thanks

You are all right, it doesn't hurt to ask. The experts here are usually right so I won't ask with any expectations and will be pleasantly surprised if I am accomodated.

Thanks for your help. Have a great day.

You would be correct if you said most tickets are upgradeable but not all. As an example, you cannot upgrade an after 2 pm convention ticket among others.

The truth is that CM's cannot do what the computer system won't allow. They cannot override a package component (neither can a supervisor). Same way that you cannot get a day dropped off the package UPH if you book it ahead of time. Cannot be done.

However, it can't hurt to ask...

I agree completely. I'll be the first one to tell you that many of Disney's policies are often cast in Jello rather than concrete. You can always ask. The worst case scenario is you'll be told no.

I'm a little confused by your question but let me try to give you an example.

I'm assuming you are talking about getting the 7 day PHP with breakfast voucher from Paramount. Your cost would be $301/adult plus $15 shipping.

If you wanted to upgrade it to an AP before using it you can but you will not get the dollar credit for the full $301 you paid. The reason is that Disney will only allow you the wholesale dollar value of the ticket. That's the price that they sold the ticket to Paramount at. Paramount adds in a certain dollar figure to that wholesale price for their profit. Disney will not give you any credit for that added profit margin or for any shipping charges you paid.

Disney's AP price (non-DC) is $393. So instead of just being able to pay $92 to do the upgrade, you will probably have to pay in the neighborhood of $125 (strictly an estimate of difference between cost of AP and wholesale price of 7 day PHP) to do the upgrade.

Doing so would mean you will have spent $301 + $15 + $125 = $441 for the AP and the breakfast. If you just purchased the AP from Disney in the first place ($393) and paid for the breakfast ($20 for most character breakfasts), you would only have paid $413.

Botom line is that is never a good idea to upgrade any ticket that you purchased from a wholesaler as you will lose all savings you got in the first place and in some cases (as above) might actually be paying more for the upgrade than you would have by just purchasing the higher ticket from Disney in the first place.

Does that help answer your question?

...and also since I 'm asking and a little off topic already, where do you go to get Aps validated..will they charge you parking if you have to go to apark to do it and if you can do it at a resort if you have the ap rate you would need to do it pre check in?

You can take the voucher to any Guest Relations or ticket window at the major parks, or to either of the two Guest Relations offices at DTD. You cannot purchase or activate an AP or AP voucher at the resorts.

Disney's policy says you should be charged the parking fee in this case since you don't have an active AP at the time. But most CM's will waive you through. In the event you get one who makes you pay the parking fee, simply pay it and bring the receipt with you to the Guest Relations window. They will refund you the amount there when you buy or activate your AP.

As far as checking in at the resort with a voucher goes, most CM's will not even ask to see it. And most of the ones that do will accept the voucher. But there are still a few who will follow the policy of insisting on an activated AP. If you get one that does, they will allow you to check in and return later (usually the next day) just to show the activated pass to the front desk.

fantastic ! all my questions in one swoop! that is exactly what I wondered about the pass so no deal that way. so I guess just bite the bullet and pay for the AP from disney.

and about the check in / validation, cleared it up

thanks!

It was when Animal Kingdom first opened. We made a trip to WDW just before our AP's were about to expire. However, these AP's were only good for the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and MGM. A CM told us to go to guest relations and get our AP's upgraded for AK. We went to the guest relations window at Epcot. I told the CM that we wanted to add the AK to our AP's. I didn't know the cost but I guessed it would be about $100.00 for all 3 AP's. The CM then asked me, "Would you like to just go ahead and renew your AP's for the year? You'll save some money". I agreed. He then issued out 3 new AP's and I got my credit card out to pay. The CM said, "That will be 33 cents.". I thought he was just playing a little joke on me.

So, I figured that I would play along with the joke. I put my credit card back in my wallet and reached in my pocket and fished out a quarter, a nickel and three pennies and shoved those coins under the window. The CM accepted them and passed 3 brand new AP's back through the window to me. I was stunned to say the least! We used those AP's during the next year without a problem. I don't know how or why it worked the way it did. I am not the type to look a gift horse in the mouth! That's why I say it never hurts to ask.

wow! great deal for you! they probably would have had to revive me if that had happenend to me.
