I'm hoping today (we're at 7 months!) to book our 3rd villa for our big family trip in August. The trip is still a surprise for some members of the family. The first two villas I booked in my name and my Mom's name. If a "better" one opens up today, I want to put it in my name so the kids and I can stay at a nicer resort. The others in our party have never even been to WDW, so anything will be wonderful for them. When I book (we go through BlueGreen and then through RCI to get to DVC), can I put the 3rd villa in DH's name and then switch it to one of my brothers' names when we get closer to the trip? How strict is DVC about switching names?

Or, will it even matter whose name is on the reservation as long as the "key" to the room stays with the person who is actually sleeping there?

Thanks!

It sounds like you are going through RCI? I'm not sure that can be done under RCI but then I don't have any experience with that. If you are booking direct from Disney, then yes, you can change the names at any time.

Names are important, you will need to show photo ID for check-in. You will also need to have the correct names printed on the room keys for any charging or additional park hour perks. Plus adult park tickets have biometric reading associated with them for park entry.

As far as changing names, it isn't a problem for DVC Members if they do it at least 48 hours prior to check-in, but your reservation isn't directly with a particular member's points, it is an RCI reservation, and falls under their additional rules which may include a restriction on changing the name of the lead occupant.

You can change the names around somewhat. Since this is an RCI exchange, you'll need to contact DVC exchange dept. Technically they could require guest certificates for any unit where the primary person for the unit is not on your BG and RCI account but they generally don't if you're present at check in. We had 9 units last Sept and I checked in to all 9 but the primary person for some of the units were other friends/family members.
