Can someone walk me through the Cozmuel taxi process?

Dh is driving me crazy. The older (*ahem* more MATURE) he gets, the more fearful he is about trying things on our own outside the United States. He's scared to death about taking a taxi to Chaunkaab (sp?) Park on our own when we cruise. He's especially nervous since we'll have our 18-month toddler with us (hence why we are not doing it as part of a Disney excursion in case Toddler starts getting cranky).

Can someone walk me through the process of getting a cab to and fro? Do you set the rate before getting in? What kind of rate can I expect? How hard is it to get a return cab? Is there a specific dock name where I ask them to return us? I assume American $ is fine? And, just as an odd note, can someone give me the correct pronunciation of the park so that I don't appear to be totally ignorant and insensitive?

Thanks everyone. Trust me, if this goes well...he'll take the credit. If it goes poorly....well, he'll never let me forget it!!!!

Don't worry. It will be much easier than he thinks! ::yes::

When you get off the ship, you'll see taxis lined up. Just go to one and tell him where you want to go. They will let you know the price up front. They are set prices.

When you get back out of the park, there will be taxis waiting there to take you back. Just tell them which ship you're on, and they'll know where to go!

Very easy! Nothing to worry about!

Hi I believe it is pretty easy to get to " Chankanaab " from the Punta Langosta Pier where the Magic docks , the rates are currently $10 each way not per person, i'm sure you'll have a great time, mini golf sally on these boards lives there and runs the tropical mini golf, she'll answer any questions happily.

Have a great trip:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy:

We were in Cozumel in December and took 4 different cabs. All had the prices set the same and were posted. Really easy.
However, none of the cabs had seat belts, and they drove pretty darn fast. You may have to look for one that has seat belts, especially with a little one aboard. And don't be shy about telling the driver to slow down. Learn the phrase in Spanish ahead of time, if you have to. The only time I felt a little uneasy about Cozumel was when we were riding in the cabs.

But don't let this keep you from enjoying Coz. The waters are spectacular.

Amy,
Hello, fellow North Carolinian!! Are you on the May 8th Magic?? DH and I will be there and we also plan to taxi to Chankanaab. It sounds like a wonderful way to spend the day! The cab fare is $10.00 each way for 4 people - maybe we can share a cab! The baby probably won't count as a passenger.

Where in NC do you live??

Tell him not to worry.

When you leave the ship, walking up the long dock, at the top..it was kind of in the grassy area between the two roads, the taxi stand. There is a guy standing there, a board with all the prices on it. You tell him where you want to go, he tells you the price, you can already see it on the board listed very clearly. He calls the taxi, and you get in and go.

Hello! It is pronounced "Chahn Kah Nahb" from what I can tell. We paid $10.00 for 4 people each way. I was traveling with my kids (no husband with me) and we were fine. There were cabs waiting at the dock and waiting outside of the park. They do drive fast they want to hurry back to make more money. Maybe if you offer them an extra $5.00 to drive slower that may work. I didn't worry about it - just went for it. Everything was fine. There is a nice sandy cove that your toddler will enjoy. Also there are birds, sea lions and dolphins to watch.

That's just too funny, because I have had the same exact thoughts. My husband also is a little nervous about exploring on our own. I was wondering how I was going to tell the taxi driver where I wanted to go without knowing HOW to pronounce it.

I guess we can always ask the crew!
