Can someone straighten me out about the THV?

First, congrats to the SSR owners, and the soon to be BLT owners! :thumbsup2

Now, my question...

Some of you may know from my past posts that I'm a huge fan of resort theme, and the detail in which that theme is carried out.
That is a major reason I own points at VWL & AKV.

Anyway, while I always liked SSR, and I've always admired the Treehouses, I have no idea how those two themes tie-in together.
My wife grew up not too far from the real Saratoga Springs, and we have visited a few times. I never remember any significant treehouse type accommodations.

Yes, the THV will be pretty neat, but I'm miffed about the Saratoga theme.

Anyone?? :confused3

They don't tie-in together. DVD saw an opportunity to buy some cheap land and decided to keep the tree house theme.

Their goal is to build resorts and accommodations that will appeal to everyone no matter what their taste. It's called diversification or covering your bases and maintaining a less than 5% vacancy rate. :thumbsup2

As the pp said, there is no correlation, but one could speculate on why they tied THV to SSR. I think the biggest thing is that SSR gets a bad rap and adding THV will revitalize interest with DVC'ers (or potential DVC'ers). I mean, the feeling I get from many SSR-related posts is that the buildings are too spread-out and the resort lacks warmth amongst other complaints, which has decreased it's popularity. If this is true, adding THV may offer renewed hope.

The THV "theme" as I see it - is a cabin in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. Saratoga is located in the foothills of the Adirondacks.

Had they built the THVs along the golf course, it would not have fit the "theme" for the rest of the resort, but since they are located in a secluded, heavily wooded area they have their own "theme" which does blend nicely with the Saratoga area, IMO.

I grew up 20 miles from Saratoga and we did have a cabin in the Adirondacks. Lots of great memories of the entire area. A little farther north is Lake Placid, home to a couple of Winter Olympics - there are a number of "treehouse-like" cabins all through the area.

YMMV! :)

I've never visited the real Saratoga Springs but I think the Disney version actually works. The idea of SSR is a health resort retreat. You have your walking paths, bridges, lakes and open fields (golf courses) with large Victorian-inspired mansion-style buildings. Now you have the more intimate Adirondack-style cabins in the woods.

It's the Disney way of taking a theme and reinventing it. For example, I don't particularly find the Boardwalk and Beach Club resorts to be much like a true Atlantic seaside.

That's how I pictured the tie-in too!

When I was a kid we used to go to my uncle's cabins (they had one in Long Lake and one in Tupper Lake).

I grew up in Saratoga. My daughter was born at Saratoga Hospital.

We also owned a camp.

It didn't look anything like a treehouse.

I like Doc's explanation! And personally, since THV and SSR are so separated from each other I dont care at all that the themes are completely different! I'm just excited that I get the 11 month window opportunity! ;)

I somehow connected the Tarzan movie to SSR/THV.

If you do that, you have the Victorian architecture (Jane's England) at SSR and the THV as Tarzan's treehouse in the jungle.

WebmasterDoc's explanation was sound, but I prefer the fantasy "Disney" element to explain what DVC did with SSR/BLT.

From what I know, you have pretty much hit the nail.
Around the time SSR opened, I was told that Disney was looking at re-doing the Treehouses. One of the concepts was a Adirondack lodge/cabin theme, that would become part of SSR.

I am not an insider, and I approved this rumor.:rolleyes1

Thanx everybody..
I do see the loose connection, but I still don't think it's a strong fit.

As others have said--
Regardless of the theme aspect, they will still be a great addition to the DVC/SSR family. :thumbsup2

That I'm going to be on the receiving side of a good thing!!! Since we are owners at SSR, and we really like the resort, DH asks, can we stay at the TVS if it's only the 2 of us??!! Sure, why not!!:cool1:
