Can someone help me convince boyfriend?

Disney is NOT cheaper than carnival, but it is very much better. Carnival is a party company--lots of smoking, drinking, casinos, etc. They are trying to change their image, but they are the classic 18-25 year olds who like to party hard and not always legally.

Disney--MUCH cleaner, no casino. Very little smoking, little or no offensive drinking. Great family atmosphere. The adult areas are clean, safe, comfortable, etc. I've never felt uncomfortable on a Disney ship. Can't say that for the other lines we've sailed.

As kcashner said, DCL is not cheaper than Carnival. In fact, it is one of the more expensive, non-luxury-class cruise lines out there. That said, we have only sailed DCL and feel that the cost is worth it. The lack of a casino is a major draw for us, as is the Disney reputation for quality service and entertainment. If, however, you are looking for a party-type cruise you may want to stick with Carnival.

If you decide that you still want to try DCL I would try to convince him to book a Category 12, inside stateroom. If you do your research and keep your eyes open these staterooms can often be had at a very good price. You get the same service/amenities as higher category cabins at a much lower cost.

In addition to the suggestion of booking at Cat 12, which will be the least expensive category, price out different times of the year. Sept-Oct are usually less expensive.

Furthermore, shop around for a travel agency/service for on-board credit. This is yet another reduction in your overall vacation cost as you will need funds to pay for tips and other things if you choose to partake.

Good luck with the persuasion!

I have sailed both Carnival and Disney. Though our Carnival cruise was significantly cheaper than our Disney cruises, we spent the whole time wishing we had saved a little more and took a Disney cruise. Man is there a difference! Disney, for us, was a 100 times better than Carnival (and we have no kids). While on the Carnival ship, we started to plan our next Disney cruise. So while Carnival may be cheaper in price, it is also cheaper in the decor, rooms, food and service.
