Can someone give me advice on depositing points for exchange?

Hi -

I am pretty new to DVC (joined at BCV in May, haven't taken first trip home yet)... We want to use points next year, probably in September, for an exchange. We aren't sure where we will request an exchange yet, but I just wondered about strategy - should you use points to make a specific reservation for a week and then deposit that week, or do you just deposit "generic" points.... and does it make a difference in terms of your success in getting hard to get trades?

If someone could walk me through the process, I would appreciate it.

Do request first. Tell DVC what and when you want then they will take the points if you match and accept the exchange. No need to deposit first unless you would lose the points otherwise.

Is there a list somewhere of DVC member reviews of the II/exchange properties? Which are worth the trade and which are not?

TUG is the place to go for this type of info. The info from DVC members on a site such as this will be too limited. DVC can also offer some additional info including comments from past DVC exchangers.

Timeshare Users Group at www.tug2.net. They have about 1800 resorts reviewed and many more ranked using a 1-10 scale. Timesharing today is another place with rankings but less properties and no free form reviews. TST does have a more thorough ranking though.
