can someone explain

I don't know. My 15 y/o son (who does not wear them) found one drifting in the ocean last week. You would have thought he found a block of gold.:confused3

That's like asking what makes any fad so popular. When I was a teenager, it was the jelly bands and water mixed with glitter bangles.

DS8 loves the Silly Bandz as well. I just bought him a NY Yankees set as a surprise a few days ago and he was so happy.

True and I think I am geting it. It is like the pins were u buy ones that express who u are and u can trade them if desired

I buy Disney Pins every year to personalize the laynard I keep my thumb drive on just to personalized it not into trading at all

I think they're jumping the shark where I am. I was down in OC MD last week and they were for sale EVERYWHERE....the kids didn't ask for them once. However, last spring when you had to go to multiple stores and time your arrival with the arrival of the shipments, the kids HAD to have them. I think it's a "I have them because my mom loves me enough to go to trouble to get them" thing. Sort of like Cabbage Patch dolls.

They are now, but I remember getting my instructions from my daughter last April that I had to be at 5 below on a Tuesday to get them...of couse, I went on a Saturday, because I work on Tuesdays and they were out of them. They sent me to another store down the strip mall (an fancy schmancy toy store) and we found them. I bought some of the last ones they had, but my kid was then officially COOL.:headache:

I like them because I have extremely tiny wrists and "real" (silver, gold, you know from a jewelry store) bracelets never fit me. I'm 24 and I'm okay with wearing Silly Bandz. :)

I don't know but I wish I thought of it!!

When my DS started talking about them months ago and I had no idea what he was talking about -

Who knows, but DS(5) must have them because everyone in his preschool has them(maybe that's the answere:confused3) and DS(2.5) wants them becuase of big brother!

Yep. By the way, :welcome: to the DISboards :goodvibes

Why were pet rocks so popular?

And Beanie Babies...
and Crazy Bones...
and Pokeman cards...
and Wacky Packages (70's)...
and Cabbage Patch Dolls...
and certain Hallmark Christmas ornaments every year...

They're money makers, that's for sure.

Hey, I remember those! :thumbsup2

Never heard of them and thanks for giving me another reason why I'm glad I have a square, non fad boy...:goodvibes

I don't get it (cause you absolutely cannot tell whatthey are when they are on someone's wrist...or layed out on a table for that matter.)

I have client who is about to turn 26 and she wears them. I just want to shake her and yell "you are an adult!!"

Ah...they are just fun. I'm 43 and have two on right now. :rotfl: I work in a daycare and we all have some because the kids give them to us.

In high school?
Teachers take away rubber bands.
This gives kids an excuse to shoot rubber bands at each other
Someone shot one to a kid next to me and it landed to the right of me so I took it. I used it as a hair tye.
