Sorry if I sound clueless, but I've been reading posts about getting the 'Entertainment Rate' for Universal Resorts. I'm assuming this a special rate you can get if you have the Entertainment discount card? What do I have to do in order to get this discount...obviously I need to order the Entertainment book, but how long after ordering does it become effective so that I am able to book a room using the discount? Do I need to get the Orlando book or could I use the one for my Area?

Thanks!
Kim

Hi Kim
you don't need an Orlando entertainment book, any book will do as apparently they all have the coupon. I understand that often they don't even ask to see anything when you check in.

When I phoned to get rates I was told the discounts are usually released about 90 days in advance, but that's not true. People are already posting that they got discounts for next June. I'm waiting for discounts for March/April. I think it has something to do with how busy they expect to be during that period. March/ April is spring break, so they may not offer discounts at all. It's a "wait and see" game right now.

You didn't mention when you were travelling, but depending on how busy you expect it might be, you might want to consider reserving the room now, then just keep calling them back to see if there's a discount they can apply to your reservation. I currently have 2 reservations for the same time period, one at HRH and the other at PBH, just in case discounts become available at one hotel, and not the other. The waiting is killing me though.

Hi Kim,

You can make your reservation requesting an entertainment rate any time they are available. The card is what you need to show at check in. No coupon. Buy any book you want from any area. Make sure you have the card at Check In. I have used this rate a few times, they have always checked my card. 2002 cards are valid till November 1,2002.
The 2003 cards are valid until Nov 1, 2003.
One Year I bought the Orlando area book and last year I bought my area book. Although I did use 1 coupon from the Orlando book, I used many from my area. I believe you can check out coupons for "your area" on the entertainment website before ordering. Also these books go on sale usually after 6 months from release. I saved $10 last year doing it that way.
