Can someone explain Fast Pass for WDW?

This will be our first trip to WDW and I would like to know about Fast Pass, how do I get them and do all rides have them? Are Fast Passes unlimited or just one per a certain ride? How much extra do they cost? Does AAA have them? Any information will be great on this subject.

Some General Info about the FastPass

Not all rides have them, I'm pretty sure that it's the more popular attractions that do so they can cut the lines down a bit. After you get the fast pass from the machine by the rides entrance, it tells you a time to come back to the attraction, and when you come back at that specific time you will be able to get on the attraction through a special entrance.

Don't use Fastpass! Don't even bother to figure out how to use it...Stand in the line and mutter under your breath at the people who do use it...those fools! They miss out on the joy of standing in long lines....and the more everyone learns how to use Fastpass the less it will help ---so please do not learn about Fastpass

I think the biggest misconception is that they cost money. They are free! Another misconception is that they are only for resort guests, which is not true. You can only get them from the machines in front of the specific ride.
