Can someone clarify something for me re: room reservation/discount?

Let's say I book a room now...rack rate.
Then say I get a code/pin/ or a new promo comes out before our scheduled arrival.
Can they just apply that discount to the room, or will the cancel it alltogether and then I have to start all over again?

Will I risk losing that particular room???

I just want to make sure if I book a deluxe CL room, that if they go to add the discount later, I will not lose that room.

Thanks!

If you are making a change that would require them to cancel one reservation to make the other, they will make the new one first to insure you get it, and then cancel the existing one. You should not fear losing a reservation since the cancel will only be done once the new one is all set.

I am I correct that you cancel or change a reservation before 5 days out without any penalty?

OK, so DO they need to cancel the reservation in order to apply discounts? I guess that's where I am confused.

If you have a room only reservation and are changing it to a package, then they will need to create a new reservation, with a new deposit. They will then cancel the existing room only reservation and refund any money you have paid on that reservation. If you are changing from a room only reservation to another room only reservation, now with some discount on the room only reservation, they will not have to cancel the existing reservation. They need to cancel and book a new reservation when you are going from room only to package, or from package to room only.

I posted something like this a couple days ago...

This is the way I understand it...when you call to use a code, that room type/resort has to be available as part of that code. If you already have a room reserved, and that is available at that promotion, then its just "applied" to your exisiting res, as long as everything stays the same. If, for instance, you needed to change your dates or even a room type, then a new reservation is made.

So to answer your question, IF a deluxe CL room is available and you want o apply the code, I think you can do that. If its not, then you have to decide whether you want to use the code for a different room or pay rack rate for the room you already have.

Does that make sense? :confused3

Even if you need to change dates of the room type or resort to get the discount you dont need a new res. The ONLY times they need to cancel and rebook is going from room only to package or vice versa or if the lead guest on the res is being changed. Other than that, EVERY aspect of a res can be modified.

Correct. I had a package booked with a standard room at AKL. I called to remove dining, and they had to give me a new reservation since it was now room only. They made the new one and only then cancelled the old one.

Then later, I upgraded my room type from standard to pool view. They modified the current reservation I had, room only to room only. No new reservation, no problem.
