Can someone call YOU a nerd?

ummm....my kids will tell you
My kids will tell you that I am a nerd. But then again, both of my kids were on their school's nerd squad (academic challenge/quizbowl team) and so should be experts on this issue.

BTW, does 16 trips to the hot seat on Who Wants to be a Millionaire-Play It count?

I'm a costumer....meaning I make and dress up in costumes that I wear throughout the year, not just Halloween.

My "big" costume that I wear the most is my stormtrooper armor. I'm a member of the world's largest Star Wars costuming club and I am a stormtrooper. I do all kinds of events in my costume and pretty much obsess about Star Wars when I'm not wearing it.

My other costumes are pretty renaissance in nature, but I also have a Lord of the Rings costume and most recently added a Pirates of the Caribbean one to my collection. And these aren't cheap costumes....they are detailed and well made ones. My armor with all its modifications and such cost me about $800. My LOTR costume was about $200 when it was all said and done...however, I'm planning on doing a revamp of it which will cost me another couple hundred. My POTC costume was about $400 when all said and done (and that still was not using the best I could have). My renaissance costumes are probably about $100-$200 a piece. I am also soon going to start working on a Padme and Mara Jade (both Star Wars) costume. Mara Jade should run me about $200. I'm suspecting the Padme one will be about the same...maybe up to $300 if I do a "simple" costume of hers. And no, I'm not just purchasing ready made ones. These are actually being handmade with fabrics and materials I pick out after doing extensive research on a costume.

Yeah, most people classify me as a nerd for that.

I guess I'll add...in addition to my love for Shakespeare and the Science Channel...

Favorite shows include Star Trek, Star Trek TNG, The Twilight Zone, and MacGyver. I also watch a lot of Discovery Channel.

Hobbies include doing word puzzle books (not just crosswords...things like crostics and cryptoquizzes and that sort) and studying ancient Egypt.

I like classical music A LOT (since when does that make you a nerd? :confused3 )

I'd rather read the classics than chick-lit. Same with movies - I like stuff I have to think about.

I've never set foot in a bar.

I don't drink, don't smoke...I'm completely square. Goody Two-Shoes.

I'm a nerd.
I'm an engineering nerd.
I'm a member of n.e.r.d which is the new england robotics division.
I used to go to math and latin competitions in high school and win them. (4th place at the national level in advanced latin)

May I join in?!? :)

- DISer
- former band nerd (although I was in the "cool" section - I played drums LOL)
- complete Disney World nerd - which to me means not just loving WDW, but wanting to know how everything works
- love to read, sew, and cook
- love computers, but being on the stay-at-home-Mommy nerd track has prevented me from keeping up with all the latest technology
- have always preferred talking with friends at parties to actually "partying"
- there's more, but my little nerds need their Mommy

I'm a software engineer. Isn't that nerdy enough?

I like math.
I can build my own computer.
I still have a C64/128 around somewhere in working condition with over 1000 games.
Everyone calls me when they have computer problems.
I like to read.
I don't mind sitting home on a Friday night.
I use excel spreadsheets for everything.
I have an obsession with mechanical pencils.
My father is a double masters engineer.
DBF is an engineer.
My best friend is an engineer. (I need some new friends :( )

Oh man. This made me realize I'm a really big nerd. But I'm a cool nerd, I swear! You have to believe me! I mean come on, I love Disney! ;)

I'm a total nerd. In fact, NERD is a term of endearment in my house. When I acll my sisters on the phone and they answer/I answer, the response is always "Neeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrdd!!!" (spoken with an Schwarzeneggar accent...don't ask).

Why I am a Nerd:

I'm a Disney fanatic :woohoo:
I am the QUEEN of Pop Culture trivia (shoulda been on that VH1 show) :smooth:
I can name most of the comic book characters for Marvel and DC (and know their true identities and backstories)
I love Transformers, Thundercats and Voltron
I can name most of the Pokemon :sad2:
As a kid I wore Coke bottle glasses and had a bad perm :bitelip:
I enjoy showtunes and movie soundtracks :goodvibes
Know more about Star Wars than I do about American History
I was top 30 of my HS class back in '94...out of about 1200 :cheer2:
Graduated from college, Summa Cum Laude in 1998 :yay:
I was so excited when I saw the preview for the live action Transformers movie that I nearly peed my pants... :lmao:

*ahem*

Not only do I LOVE Barry Manilow, but I help run an online fan club.

And I'm 43 years old.

*grabs the Nerd Trophy and raises it triumphantly in the air*

:dancer:

Jennasis: My comic downfalls are The X-Men and Constantine(Hellblazer) but point me to a comic book themed movie and I'm happy

I fall to pieces when it comes to Hot Geeky/Nerdy girls ;) . They are the best!

I admit it-I'm one of the first Nerdettes! I majored in math and became an engineer back when girls just didn't do that . Matter of fact, I was in the first class of girls when my college, formerly all male, went coed-an engineering college. Of coiurse, I had a slide rule. When I graduated, I became only the second female engineer at a company that employed thousands of people.
A few years ago, when I went for my first bone density test for osteoporosis, I got into a long discussion about how bone density scores (at least on that machine) are given in terms of statistical z scores (any statisticians know what I mean?). I thought it was interesting.
And as I posted elsewhere, I love doing Sudoku puzzles. So am I a lifelong nerdette?

Not a nerd, but a theater geek.

just dropping in to see who's here..
