Hey everyone,
I just wanted to know if S/D brides can hold a private reception by renting out a space that is WDW owned, such as Atlantic Dancehall or even The Attic?

Or is this only available for DFTW brides?

Thanks!

Disney will not let you book one of its venues for a wedding reception without planning a Disney's Fairy Tale Wedding. Non-DFTW brides can book dessert parties or just a regular private meal (no dancing, DJ, etc.) by working with Disney Catered Events, as long as they are staying in a Disney owned and operated hotel. More info is available HERE.

You can book large party non private events at any WDW restaurant though. We had our welcome dinner at 1900 Park Fare. We had around 30 guests for that event and they ende up putting us in a semi private room to accommodate our party size and keep us all together. We were even allowed to order a custom grooms cake from the GF that they presented at our event. We booked by making multiple ADRs online and then contacted the 1900 PF manager to merge them and go over the details. Very easy and we had a great time!

We also booked a rehearsal dinner for our bridal party at the Biergarten. Again we were seated all together and they took very good care of it!

Is this something new? When I was planning my VR and deciding on a venue I contacted Disney Catered Events about having a reception at Narcoossees or Citricos and I let them know it was for my Swan VR. They never told me it wasn't allowed and they even gave me to the ok to check out the venues. I decied on Il Mulino in the end because I got to work with the manager directly rather than going through catered events.

Officially, if they think you are trying to have a wedding reception without going through DFTW, they are supposed to send you to DFTW. You may have lucked into someone who didn't know this policy or it could be that because you mentioned "vow renewal" instead of "wedding" the alarm bells didn't go off.

Yup, we were worried about that when we booked our DP. We ended up telling a little white lie and told the initial lady we booked with that we were hosting a "holiday get together" since it was the week before Christmas. After it was booked, I mentioned to our assigned DP planner that we were getting married the next day and he was thrilled for us:) He even showed up the night of the event to congratulate us.

thank you everyone for the help and advice! I knew there are other disBrides out there that would know the answer to my questions!:)
