My parents are staying at a non-resort Downtown Disney Hotel. I did a Mapquest their hotel to ours and the directions said there was a security gate POR. Will they be able to drive to POR, park their car and use the pool and have dinner with us at POR?

Drive to POR: yes
Have dinner with you: yes
Swim: ASK THE POR LIFEGUARDS! ASK THE POR LIFEGUARDS! ASK THE POR LIFEGUARDS! Pools are for use ONLY by Guests of that resort (and in some cases, 'sister' resorts); however, asking the LIFEGUARDS - not ANY OTHER Cast Member - at your resort might result in a positive response. Why the lifeguards? Because these are the CMs responsible for the pool.

Disney policy is no. Will you get away with it probably.

In Oct. 2009, at the Polynesian Resort, we were told that non-resort guests can visit for the day but that we should tell the front desk their names so the security can be alerted that our guests are OK to drive in and park their car.

Spending the night was OK too but there's a $25 per night per person additional charge - assuming your room holds that many people.

I'd assume the lifeguards would be OK with our guests using the pool but we never asked about using the pool.

Actually Disney policy is that the pool's lifeguards *may* allow a guest of a guest to use the pool *if* it is not crowded.

It's not considered the same as "pool hopping."

::yes:: They're Guests of current Guests. As such, and with permission from the CMs specifically responsible for pool safety, they may well be allowed.

Actually, Disney's policy is printed on the sign at the pool - that the pool of that resort is for the exclusive use of the guests of that resort.

Who may choose to take advantage of it by using with their guests, with the lifeguards' permission.

:thumbsup2 that is right...also the front desk mang can also ok it...they have done it for us many times and the lifeguards will ok it with no problem if the mang says its ok.I have never had a mang tell me to ask the lifeguards...they have always said "yes go and have fun" and the lifeguards have never asked.I would just make sure you ask someone...wdw wants you to have fun and I have never had them say "no,its for our guests only" they are really good about that. That is NOT pool hopping.HAVE A GREAT TRIP!

I had friends come and hang at the pool with me. I kept their son overnight so they could have a night out.

I didn't ask, I didn't pay an extra $25.00 and I didn't even think about doing any of that.

I think some people put a little too much thought into all of this.

About non resort guest using the pool I think you can only answer that yourself.
Ask yourself I you don't mind if YOU are not able to get a pool chair because non resorts guest are sitting on them.
If the answer is yes I would like to sit on a chair I paid for than you can answer the question about non resort guests yourself.

also the front desk mang can also ok it...
Respectfully, the front desk manager has no control over the pool. That person may say "okay" only for the Guests to actually get out to the pool and discover 500 football players already there.

The $25 (or $10 or $15, depending on the resort level) is for additional adult Guests over two but keeping room occupancy under the allowed maximum.

As for putting a little to much thought into anything - heck, no. Just that we can read and follow rules, including the "pool is for resort Guests only" one on the sign at the pool. We ALSO know there can be a VALID exception if only one ASKS.

And yet again, we say farewell to a pool use argument.

Disney's policy, as stated on their website and on signs at the resort pools, is clear: pools are only for use by the guests of that resort.

If the pool is not busy, lifeguards have been known to grant exceptions for visiting family and friends. And it really is better to ask, as some resorts do check ID and will evict non-guests from the pool area.
