"Status" - real or fake - is very important to some people.. Thankfully I'm not one of them - LOL.. Imagine how embarrassing it would be for the people around you to learn that you were "faking" it - or in debt up to your eyeballs just so you could "fit in".. It's really sad to be that driven..

You can rent designer handbags at Bag, Borrow, and Steal - it's a great alternative for those who have champagne tastes on a beer budget. I think this is along the same lines.

I don't think of it as faking being rich, but rather more living in your means. You can't afford to own, so you rent.

It's too bad that people feel they need to "keep up with the Jonses." I can appreciate tips on how to get items cheaper, etc, but to phrase the sunglasses in that way is strange on their part.
