Can Overweight People Ride the Rides?

CONGRATULATIONS! 60lbs is a great accomplishment. :cheer2: Have fun doing your final planning for your trip, but most of all, have a great trip!:cool1:

ps: welcome to the dis!:dance3:

Here is another tip - sometimes the turnstiles for certain rides are a little tight. I had no problem asking a cast member to simply open the gate next to it for me - people in scooters go thru this entrance. I didn't feel the slightest bit funny about it either. Nobody looked at me or made me feel weird also - so don't try to squeeze thru a small tiny turnstile if they have a gate that they can open right next to it.

I just stand on tiptoes and go on through. The hardest one ofr me was the exit to IASW and the HM.

One quick warning about riding with the 3yo. Beware of rides that have one bar that comes down across both parties. I'm pooh sized and when the bar comes down it stops at my size but when I'm riding with my little one it's way too high. :scared1:

Just something to watch for, and it's only on rides with one bar for both seats.

Christy
I guess the boys will have to accomodate and ride with her. LOL

Thanks for asking this question. I'm Pooh sized myself and though I have been before while Pooh sized I still worry about things like seats and turnstiles, as well as all the walking and standing I know I'll have to do.

I'm going to be there in a little over seven weeks myself so I'm trying not to stress about my Pooh sized worries and just planning on enjoying myself. It is the happiest place on earth after all.

Just heed the advice and have a great time and congrats on the weight loss!

I just want to say congrats on the weight loss. I lost 85 pounds four years ago. My first trip to WDW after that was incredible! I felt so much better and had so much more energy. Keep up the good work!

Congrats on loosing the 60 pounds! That is excellent! You should be fine with just about everything, I am Pooh size too (currently doing WW!) and as others have said sometimes just getting in and out might be the only problem otherwise you will have not have a problem. Have a great time and keep up the good work!!:yay:

I agree, but don't be afraid to ride with her. Just have her close enough that you can put your arms around her. My thighs are much bigger than DD's:scared1:and I always make sure to keep her close on Peter Pan and BTMRR. The one that makes me nervous is the chair lift at BB; I really hold on to her on that one. Anyway, I think this problem is true of most adults riding with a young child, not just Pooh sized ones. Have a wonderful trip!

I have a Question related to this topic. The only ride i have never been on is the Rocking Roller Coaster, mostly because of my size. Is this one also "Pooh"sized. I'm 6'4 and big. The leg room is the biggest pblm i have on the other rides, Dinosaur being the tightest IMHO.

Yes, you will be fine.

The only ride I would be worried about is Astro Orbiter. They tend to make people ride that ride 2 or 3 to seat. Last week, they had me and my two sons squeeze into one of those seats and I didn't think we were going to make it. I am 5'5" and am in a 20/22 and would have been fine if it was just 1 kid with me, but when they made us put all 3 of us in one it was not good. We finally figured it out, but not without a couple of attempts. When you get to the CM who asks how many is in your group, ask to sit by yourself and you will be fine.

I'm 6'2 and 280 and ride Astro Orbiter even though the elevator scared the carp out of me. They always let me ride alone, imagine me and my 260 poind buddy trying that one.
Don't forget Goofy's Barnstormer. I always gotta ride this one. It's short but fun and there's plenty of room. I also ride R&RC without issue, and everything else. Have fun. You've worked hard and deserve this trip.

I don't really have anything to add about the rides, but wanted to say congratulations on losing 60 pounds! That is awesome. Good for you and good luck!

Have a wonderful trip!

First off...congrats to you for your success thus far! :thumbsup2

Secondly, most of the rides seemed to be designed for people of all sizes, so you likely won't have any problems. If you are in doubt, you can ask a CM working at the ride entrance. Many of the rides have "test vehicles" in very discreet, hidden areas that you can "try out" in advance.

Have fun and keep it up!

Absolutely! I am pooh-sized and DH is even a bigger pooh-size and we rode everything fine (including the tea cups!). The only thing DH could not ride was at DQ - the roller coaster simulator. No worries mate, you'll be fine! :woohoo:

 Hi Dawn68PA!

OP, we'll be at WDW about the same time as you! You'll do just fine. Have a wonderful trip. :goodvibes

I'm Pooh-sized (28-30w too) and I was able to ride absolutely everything with my daughter... There is one thing that was a bit of a squeeze... the new American Idol theatre at DHS has VERY narrow seats and the number pad that you vote with is on the arm of the chair. I had a little boy sitting on my left and I had to scoot forward all the way in my seat so he could use the buttons, unfortunately my hips rested on the top of the arms... Also, at Disney Quest, I went a couple years ago and couldn't ride the coaster simulator (but the CM gave my daughter and I YOMD fastpasses to use the next day at MK!)...

Have fun and know that you should be able to do anything you want!

Thank you again to everyone's responses. This was so helpful. No we just have to wait the 6 weeks to go. LOL

My family and I have been planning our trip for over a year now. We are going this June (just 6 weeks away.) I've been working on my weight loss and have lost 60 lbs but am still considerably over weight. I'm tall (5'11") so i have that in my favor, but I'm still close to a 28-30W in clothes. Will I be able to fit on the rides? All the kids and husband are getting excited, but I can't help but be leary on the embarrassment if I can't fit on the rides. If anyone has any information on this, I would greatly appreciate it! Luckily I still have 6 weeks to continue my weight loss and hope to lose at least another 20 lbs by then.

You won't have much to worry about! I felt a little tight on Goofy's Barnstormer and the train, but I half expected it. Everything else was comfortable.

Congrats on your progress so far and keep up the great work. :thumbsup2

I was very freaked out before my first trip about not fitting, it was NO issue and even cooler was that for the trip I felt just "regular" I went one week just having fun and not worring about my weight at all, it was awesome and made me totally addicted!
