Can kids swim in mid 60's?

We are leaving Wed and trying to see if kids could swim. Bummed to see that the weather isn't to get out of mid 60's.

Now, what to pack? Capris? Jeans?

Looks like we will need everything from sweatshirts and gloves to tshirts. Was so hoping to be wearing shorts and flip flops!!

The pools are heated, you (particularly kids) can swim at any temp. There is a picture of me in middle school in an outdoor pool in Colorado while on a ski vacation. I was the only one in there, but I was swimming.

Also, the weather can change pretty quickly and is only really accurate a day or 2 before hand. So, in other words, pack for all weather.

You're from Ohio, so yes your kids can swim ... it will seem warm to them . The pools are heated and there will be lifeguards at the pools. Just make sure to pack something warm to get to/from the pool. That's the worst part!

I was at WDW on Jan 3rd and it was in the mid 40's and there was a lifeguard and a child happily swimming in the pool. I talked to the lifeguard and he said that there was a new policy that ALL the pools had to decide to close and if one pool on property chose to stay open they all had to. I consider that am improvement from a couple of years ago when the AKV pool was closed when it was in the mid-50's but SAB was open. My DD wanted to swim and we could not .

I would recommend you bring a little of everything, including shorts as it looks like it will warm up a bit. As for warmth, you will want to layer. Bring sweatshirts/fleeces and a light jacket for early mornings and evenings. Bring lightweight stretchy gloves for chilly evenings, I use mine every Dec/Jan trip. I also bring a bag into the parks in the morning to stuff jackets into when it warms up.

My child will swim at any temperature. Last February when we went to Disneyland the temperature never quite reached 70, yet my child was there in an unheated pool, content to freeze her little tookus off as long as she could splash around. Me, I prefer the hot tub with a margarita, LOL. I was bundled up in a sweatshirt and jeans, but she was perfectly content.

Honestly, I enjoy the WDW pools much more in December/January than in August. In December the pools are warm and refreshing and the hot tubs are relaxing. In August everything feels like bath water: just hot and hotter.

Here are my boys swimming on thanksgiving week while it was freezing out (at least to me and the lifeguard there) they wouldn't take their shoulders out of the water.

Western PA here and we swim barely 3 months out of the year too. It's *maybe* 1/2 of June, July, August and 1/2 of September. But still, has to be over 80. When we vacation to Florida in April and May its warm enough to swim, and we do, but it feels funny to me lol. To me swimming is for hot summer days, not lukewarm days.

Same here! This is definately a regional question. 60s is way too cold for me to think about swimming but we only have two types of temps in my city (Hot and not so hot ).

We're from Central PA and will be there about the same time. We went in December a few years back. The week started out in the 80's (which was heavenly to us - the day before we left was spent stacking the cord of wood we would use for the winter). By the end of the week, it was in the 60's. Kids didn't care and were swimming. The pool was full of kids swimming while parents huddled around it wearing hoodies and sweatpants. I tend to acclimate to the temperature very quickly, so I was one of the parents huddled outside the pool.

Brrrr! My DD has not wanted any part of the pool when we have been in that type of weather, but we do always see a few truly adventurous souls doing it. Part of it, I'm sure, is that we are usually in the parks during the warmth of the day, and it gets downright CHILLY after the sun goes down. A couple years ago we had hats/gloves/hoodies on in the evening at Epcot, but we ended up still having to buy a blanket just to be able to stay for Illuminations!

Kids seem oblivious to temperature especially when it comes to swimming. If you were raised in New England, as I was, until you reach adult hood there is no such thing as too cold.

My own kids, when we would go to Maine in late August would swim in the Atlantic and let me tell you, the gulf stream doesn't even come close to land up there. The water temperature would be in the 50's and they would be out in there crashing against the waves. They would stay there until we noticed that their lips were turning blue and then have them come in until they warmed up again, and then right back out. So I don't think 60 degree outside temperature will be much of a deterrent. I have used the pools there as late as February with no discomfort at all.

We were there once when it was high's in the 50's and low's in the 30's. we came back from the parks at NIGHT and found some teens returning from the pools--and they were wet ( obviously in the water). The pools are heated, but when you get out the air will be very cold.

Be brave! You're from the Midwest We've gone to WDW in Jan. in the past from here in Wisconsin and were alone in the pools except for some Canadians!

Me, too. the only way I get in the water when it's below 80 is with a wetsuit on.
