I can't believe you have to stand for WOC...my kids won't be able to see a thing. How can this be?:confused3

The whole *standing* scenario is ridiculous.

I haven't been to see WOC yet, but I've read enough threads to figure out that you need to arrive earlier than the fastpass time-frame and watch for when people start to get in early so you can get a good spot. Yeah, I guess that means waiting for hours and you might still have someone squeeze in and stand in front of you and the CMs won't do anything about the person in front of you with a child on their shoulders, but hey! At least you tried. :rolleyes1

My DH is 5'4" - we're avoiding WOC. The time-cost for waiting for FPs and again for staking out a spot, plus the potential frustrations for being short in a sea of taller people makes the whole thing not worth it for us.

In general the same way it can be for fireworks shows and (at DL) Fantasmic. However, these other shows usually have some options - if you are willing to wait long enough - for sitting. For WOC there is no other option at the moment.

So, what does one do? There are places kids can see - at railings for instance. You need to find these spots, arrive early, and get there.

World of Color is a brand new show and millions want to see it. It does appear that Disney miscalculated badly in several areas. They miscalculated how many people could fit into the viewing area. Then they miscalculated how well people would be able to see who are shorter and/or younger. And finally they miscalculated by not having any sitting options at all. At least Fantasmic has reserved seating and also the mandatory sitting area near the water.

For now we are stuck with this. Disney cannot take this show down to rework the viewing area any time soon. At least a year but likely two. The best they could potentially do is create a reserved seating area somewhere.

It is a bummer. If you work hard at it you can get a good view.

IMHO - it is definitely not worth giving up an entire evening. It was a good show, but not good enough to pay $65 for picnics and wait 2 hours, especially if you have squirmy kids. Plus, you are right, my 9yo couldn't see. We rigged a way for her to sit on the fence so at least her head would be level with ours, but it was still a terrible view with an arbor and VIP standing area in front of us. And we were in the Blue section. We only got there an hour early, though.

I swear, those Disney folks would be well served to bring in a group of Disney fanatics to help them plan these things. Didn't they do mock-ups before they built the viewing area?

What you can try to do, if they still show it, is get a FP for the 11:15 which was less crowded when I went. But I don't know how long they will keep doing an 11:15 show.

It was nice because we where able to see the fireworks and then head over to WoC.

They had computer mockups up the wazoo. But apparently they still missed some details.

They should have done flesh and blood mock-ups for sure. Some things computers just can't do as well. Like simulate the fact that so many, many people would not fold up their strollers and would, instead, push them up against the rails, thereby taking up many premium viewing places. Just to name one.

I would have volunteered for sure. I live to serve.

My DD had a great view of WOC the 2 times we saw it earlier this month, both time we stood on the steps in the *green* preferred area, she stood on/in her stroller.

We had to hold our kids to so they could see WOC. We were in the yellow section in the way back and had some over 6 foot tall people in front of us...I am 5'7 and DH is 5'8. I asked to squeeze in next to them and they obliged. Probably because I was holding my 7 y/o.
Still to me standing and waiting all that time was worth it. But then again we had a 5 day pass so we had plenty of time to do everything.

I respectfully disagree. We paid for picnics (did the 10:15 as I hoped it would be less crowded). Got to the line up area way before our FP time even started. Once they "opened" the gate lots of people behind us shoved ahead and so we ended up being 100 people back. By the time we were let in to the Blue section, all the railing spots were taken. One nice man let my DS and I in front of him at the rail so I was sure it would work out. It all looked great until a man stopped in a walkway in front of us- with his child on his shoulders- completely blocking the center fountain view.

My DS was very frustrated, as was I. I had done every "tip" out there and still, the "standing" was the issue that prevented us from seeing the whole show. I won't be wasting my time with all this waiting for WOC again only to *maybe* see the show. I don't mind waiting for Fantasmic, and we try to find off-center spots to see the fireworks, as for that you need to look UP not FORWARD.

I'm a premium AP holder, and WOC isn't something we'll be seeing again until they fix the seating situation. We could have done a ton of rides from 8:30 when we first lined up, to 11:00 (it took 15 minutes to be "herded" out). Not to mention, both the fireworks and the late Fantasmic. YMMV. :thumbsup2

I think waiting for a primo seat is a mistake. Then you've got a ton of time and sometimes money invested and still no guarantee of a good view. I've seen it from the front row, middle and very back and prefer it from the very back. The fountains are tall. If you can get your kids back four feet or more from the people in front of you, and better yet put them on your shoulders since you're in the very back row, they'll see it better.

The CMs when I was there this weekend were telling people that when the show started people should let the kids move toward the rails so they could see. You know how popular that is, when people have been staking out a rail seat for an hour or more.

That made me chuckle. I can't believe they asked for people to do that.

I agree! I was extremely disappointed. Furthermore, what I did see wasn't all that fabulous.

We all six preferred Fantasmic. Next time I'll watch WOC from the back of the area, with no time or money investment. If you've seen the Bellagio and Laserium and Fantasmic, you've pretty much seen what WOC has got going on. I was more impressed with Toy Story Midway Mania in a way. :thumbsup2

I've never understood why adults have a problem with this. It's not like the kids are blocking their views. Can someone enlighten me??

I agree with everyone else. It is disappointing for young kids to not be able to see the show with all the adults. When I was there during opening day weekend, I had some families kids crying of not being able to see WoC with all the tall people. I'm still wondering when I go to DL next month with my BF two kids that are 10 and 7 will be able to see WoC that night.

I would just keep doing F! with kids so I can get a good sitting area right next to the ROA instead of doing WoC and have to be in front of tall people with kids.

I had a problem when a family with young kids behind me was unable to watch SpectroMagic when I was in WDW last March. I told them that they can be in front of me during the show where I was right by a curb side in MS. They were really happy about that I let them be in front. I told the family that I was videotaping and asked if their kids don't get in my view of taping or make too much of a noise. When they show started and one of the floats came by, one the kids that I let them be in front of me had a star wars light saber and was waving in front of me and making a lot of noise. He was in my videotaping part and I asked him to not do that, and he just kept doing it until his parents told him to stop it. He was like around 6 years old. The parents were sorry to me and I said it is okay.

That's my opinion about letting kids in front of me. I have let a lot of young kids to be in front of me during nighttime shows, the parents were very appreciative to let their kids up front during a show and it didn't bother me. But if they make a racket and wave objects in front of me when I am videotaping is another story. I also agree with Raindown, it is also liability.

I don't mind kids in front of me and I will invite any small kids up to see a show in front of me, if they're behind me and polite. What I don't like is waiting 90 minutes at a rail spot just wide enough for my family and then 10 minutes before showtime a family gets off a ride and then squishes their four kids into each of our armpits. I guess that's what DL wants, though. Eh, I'll just watch from the back from now on. I have personal space issues anyway. :lmao:

I agree with you on that last second families will try and force their way to get in at the very last second before the show. I have np with it, but if they are not polite, I can not let them be in front of me during a show.

I had problems with that before with a family when I was waiting for F! for 3 hours during 4th of July two years ago and part of my family was going to the bathroom and than all of a sudden, a family tried to squeeze their 6 party members into my area. I told them that this spot is reserved for my family that just went to the bathroom and coming back shortly. One of the parents said that this is a free country and you don't own the park. I was furious after he said that to me and I called a CM and asked him to move the family out of the spot. They didn't and I was mad, the dad gave me the stare look and I just let it go. But during the show, the kids were just talking all the time during the show right next to us and I asked them if they could keep it down, but they just ignored me. When the show was over I talked to the CM that let the family in my spot and I was not happy with his decision. He said that the spot is empty and there were a lot of guests around the ROA that night that wanted to see F!. I understand that DL will try to fit everyone in for every show, but letting a family in just like that and being rude is not good.
