Can kids see WOC????

I've never understood why adults have a problem with this. It's not like the kids are blocking their views. Can someone enlighten me??

When I saw WOC we actually let in a little boy (6ish?) get in front of me and my DS. Heck, someone else had let US in! Doesn't bother me. But once the show started, and the view got blocked, he squeezed his way back to wherever his family was, which was nowhere near us...:scared1: I can see why some families might have an issue with letting unknown kids get in front of them and their kids. I myself would be uncomfortable letting my kids get separated from the adults in our party, especially knowing how crowded and crazy it is getting out of there.

It would have been better if the castmembers told guests to not put kids on their shoulders!!!!! :headache:

Back when WoC debut on June 11, when security CMs seen adults having their kids on the shoulders, they went in the crowds and ask them to carry their kids head levels. Ever since opening week, the CMs don't care anymore of letting kids be on the adults shoulders during the show.

We saw the show from the very front rail in the yellow wet zone and everyone in our party was able to see just fine. I will say that one of the adults tried to sit at the rail (as there a was plenty of room) due to a recent knee surgery and found the seated view to be less than ideal. He ended up standing for most of the show. So for the very young, even standing at the rail may be less than ideal. -- Suzanne

I respectfully disagree. We paid for picnics (did the 10:15 as I hoped it would be less crowded). Got to the line up area way before our FP time even started. Once they "opened" the gate lots of people behind us shoved ahead and so we ended up being 100 people back. By the time we were let in to the Blue section, all the railing spots were taken. One nice man let my DS and I in front of him at the rail so I was sure it would work out. It all looked great until a man stopped in a walkway in front of us- with his child on his shoulders- completely blocking the center fountain view.

My DS was very frustrated, as was I. I had done every "tip" out there and still, the "standing" was the issue that prevented us from seeing the whole show. I won't be wasting my time with all this waiting for WOC again only to *maybe* see the show. I don't mind waiting for Fantasmic, and we try to find off-center spots to see the fireworks, as for that you need to look UP not FORWARD.

I'm a premium AP holder, and WOC isn't something we'll be seeing again until they fix the seating situation. We could have done a ton of rides from 8:30 when we first lined up, to 11:00 (it took 15 minutes to be "herded" out). Not to mention, both the fireworks and the late Fantasmic. YMMV. :thumbsup2
I am going off reports and you have done it personally. So I am at a disadvantage. On the other hand, I have read of people with kids who have gotten good views. You seem to be saying that no matter what you do you cannot get a good view for kids. I said that you can get a view if you try hard (based on what I have read). I dunno. It all sounds pretty confusing. :confused3

Now I'm even more confused. Who is liable?

Bravo mvf! Sorry you almost got light-sabored, though. But I bet you made that family's night!

LOL, yea it was good for that young kid and his family that night. It was just rude for him waving his light saber in front of me when I let him to be in front of me. It's okay.

Someone lets their child squeeze in at the front rail and the parents are in the back.

Now I get nudged, because it is a crowded show and their kids falls, hits their head, get smashed against the rail or thinks I inappropriately touched them. Perhaps I move my arms to get something from my bag, opps I hit their kid. Their child climbs on the rail in a dangerous manner. Have I some duty to act? I just prefer not to find the answers. Mom and dad can get there early.

This is depressing me! :(

Me too :( Maybe I won't even bother trying to see it since I have 3 small kids and waiting around for hours is not their thing especially if they don't even get a decent view of the show after all that waiting around. Maybe we can watch it on youtube, that's just as good right? :rotfl:

I think the kids are happy seeing the top half of the show, or the top left portion, or whatever. It's us adults that want to see it from top to bottom, left to right, unobstructed.

Don't spend a ton of time or money, just show up expecting to see part of a pretty fountain show with thousands of others, and you'll probably be satisfied.

I'm sorry if it sounded as if no matter what you couldn't get a good view. I just meant that even if you tried REALLY hard, and paid for a view- you still might not see. I think for every report of "great view" you see almost as many with "not so much". Even getting to the rail does not guarantee you are going to get a good view of the show.

Now if you are a tall person you are pretty much guaranteed a good view! But short folks and kids who aren't on shoulders, it's a big gamble. I have a friend who went last week, paid for AG seating, and saw WOC great! It's just a crapshoot.

It will have to be youtube for sure! Or.......go at the low season? :confused3

OK, gotcha. And from what I read from others and people like you, it is frustating. You want to be able to do XYZ and know you will get a good view. But there is no such option for WOC. At Fantasmic if you arrive early enough or buy the dessrt package you know you can see it. Not so for WOC. If I had younger kids I would be very frustrated. As it is I think we will be OK with our preferred dining package and early arrival plans. Thanks. :)

Thanks to the posters for their trip reports. They've helped me decide that my son, 7, and I will skip WOC and do the Fantasmic dessert seating instead during our mid-August trip. There's no way he will stand for up to two hours before an event, only to find out that he can't see. I'm amazed Disney didn't see (or didn't care) that his would be a nonstarter for families with small kids. We'll wait for a future trip when attendance slacks off, and DS is taller.

We jsut got back from Disneyland and did both world of color and fantasmic with 2 small children.
We bought the desert package for fantasmic and I waited for 2 hours to pick our seats for it and we had the best seats in the house! Had a great time waiting in line talking to people. Totally worth it and it was the highlight of our week.
Other story for world of color. We stayed at the Grand californian and so had early access to get World of color fast passes. We still ended up waiting in a line to get fast passes (ended up in yellow section) and then had to show up at 7:30 to get our spot in the mad mob and then were sitting down when CM came over at 8:00 and said we had to stand up because they were going to get more people into our section. We were lucky because we had a spot on the stairs and had a stroller that my kids could stand on so they saw everything. Other people were not so lucky especially the ones with 7-10 years olds. The kids were too big to hold and too short to see anything. Very poor design and planning on disney's part. They probably should of done a huge stadium like they have at Disney hollywood studios in Disneyworld for fantasmic.

Nice idea but there is no room for a stadium at DCA. Once the excitement for WOC dies down (over the next year probably) I am sure they will drop the WOC FP thing and it will be first come first served seating and maybe still a preferred dining section.

I had read that the Fast Passes were their way of making it NOT turn into an all-day seat holding game like Fantasmic is. If so I'd expect them to stay around. That's all we need is people throwing down blankets for WOC at 4pm. I kind of wish they wouldn't even let anyone congregate there before like 8:30.

I personally would take an outdoor amphitheatre for shows over Cars Land or Little Mermaid. Those both seem to be taking up huge real estate chunks.

Maybe, but they cannot tie up the GRR FPs forever. If they want to keep them for WOC they will need to build their own dedicated FP machines or use the ones at ITTBAB that are mothballed.

Even so, I personally believe WOC FP will go away after the furor dies down. And people will camp just like fireworks and Fantasmic. And the best show to see will be the second show because campers can only camp for the first one. :cool2:

Well, I guess they could have built a whole new lagoon for WOC in the Cars Land area. But they decided to use the lagoon they had. Which means not enough room for a stadium - and pretty small and not very well designed to support WOC -because they took so many shortcuts when building DCA to cut costs to the bare minimum.

At some point WOC will need to go down for refrub on all the show elements and fountains. And when that happens expect to see the viewing area redesigned. If there was a contest for guessing I would predict that to happen in early 2012 (January-March).

I keep reading suggestions that people get in early.

If a person has a FP and the pass provides the time frame to return (let's say 8:00-8:30), are the CMs letting them in earlier? And how much earlier?

Thanks!
