Can only going to CS be done? We are planning 1 TS (Biergarten for DH's BDay) but the rest of the meals would be CS. I know it won't be any fun but I couldn't do a package before of the whole paying 45 days before your arrive. I won't have my taxes filed by then!

it can be. we did that in 2007. we ate at Garden Grill for DD's 4th bday but that was it. We still had a blast. we just got our food and ate and were done in an hours time and went back to having fun!!!

You can add the dining plan on after your 45 days out. You can add the dining plan I believe it is either 72 or 48 hours before your arrival. That is, you have to add it either 72 or 48 hours before you arrive. Once that window is reached, you can't add it on.

Hope that helps.

Paula

Yes you can! When we don't have (free) DDP we eat mostly CS. Works well for us.

Have a great time!

it can be done. I would suggest looking at all the menus and seeing where you can can get some different things so that you aren't looking at typical fast food the whole time. Here are some of my favorite ones that are a bit different:
Magic Kingdom is a little rough- everything there tends to be burgerish except columbia harbour house which is not really a fave

Epcot- most of the countries, esp Morocco, and Japan have good CS. Plus the sunshine seasons food court in the Land

Animal Kingdom- flame tree has great food

DHS- is a bit lacking but there are some different menus

DTD - wolfgang puck express, and earl of sandwich are both excellent.

Epcot is the easiest to do this - I agree - we love Morocco. We save the bread from our meal and go over to Italy for a glass of red wine -

Magic Kingdom also has Cosmic Rays with salad and ribs

AK - Flame tree has gone a little down hill lately. We found Pizzafari to be great this year - they have good salads if you are looking for something better for you.

DHS - Plenty of options - but pretty basic.

This thing I miss doing this is the break I get during the day. It is nice to go to a cool spot, sit down comfortably and have a nice meal.
But if it is the variety of food you are worried about. You have plenty of options in CS.

Glad it can be done. Trust me if I thought we could swing the dining plan, I would add it. But we just dont eat that much food to make it worth it. Sometimes we barely eat enough to make a buffet worth it but are willing to try for Biergarten and maybe Boma!

I could be wrong, but I imagine that a LOT of Disney guests never set foot in a TS restaurant. In fact, for years I assumed that CS-only was the normal way to do Disney (is it?). I'd been to Disney several times before the first time I tried TS.

However, if you're used to TS, you might feel you're missing something. But for newbies, you can't miss something you've never experienced.

Plus if you want the dining plan you can now add the quick service dining plan which will get you two counter service and two snacks plus two refillable mugs/night and according to everything i've read and my TA you can add it as long as you do so before you arrive. It's supposed to save you 20%.

The only reason I have been able to try TS was the free dining, which since I have gotten once I can't go without DDP. However, I remember my first trips when we got to go to a CS we considered it special (we would make all of our meals ahead of time). I'm not sure if many people still do this when going to WDW...

DH and I used to do CS only with one TS for our trip....we were broke young kids back then and were just happy to be at WDW! Now we are able to do TS dinners every night and mostly do CS for breakfast and lunch...there are so many options that do not include burgers and chicken nuggets!

I used to do this all the time with my ex and I never had any real problem with it. It was much quicker and cheaper than TS, so we were able to get back on rides faster.
