Can I Wear the New "Puck" With My Current Magic Bands?

So I'm reading this new "puck" will replace the current MB. Has anyone read if the current bands will accommodate the new puck? I just bought the 25 Anniversary band so I would like to be able to wear it for a while!

The current bands have a 2 year battery life for the enhanced experiences like displaying your name or photo on a ride.

I'm curious about using existing bands as well since I just bought a Dooney and Bourke band.

I haven't confirmed this anywhere, but it doesn't seem like the puck will be compatible with existing bands. I'm assuming that current bands will still work for quite some time though since the puck uses the same technology, right? Can you imagine the uproar if existing bands people had purchased or customized could no longer be used?!

The band and the puck are used to identify a user to their account. Using both will depend on the software code that allows 2 active devices at the same time.

To clarify for anyone like me who is as non-tech as it gets, are you referring to actually having to use both an old and new band at the same time ("2 active devices")? I'm hoping that anyone who wants to use only an existing active band during any given visit (once the pucks are released) may do so without having to use the new one as well. At least for a while anyway...

The way that I understand it is that your MDE account contains all about you, your fast passes, your admission media, you MB's both active in not active.

The MB or any other device that you wear, identifies you as the MDE account user so if Bill's MB is used to access the MK, the software will check to see if Bill has a valid admission ticket for the MK.

Today you use the MB, tomorrow the puck or the MB, in the future maybe your shoe.

Is the arrival of the puck imminent? I was sort of thinking it could be a while.

From what I've read the RFID chip can work indefinitely . This is what's used to open your room, house your ticket data; dining reservations, etc. I think the battery is only necessary for photos taken on rides and tracking your movement throughout the parks. If this is truly all that the battery is used for it could die tomorrow for all I care. No rush for me to get the puck.

A poster on an older thread regarding MBs and battery life points out that the battery is used for longer-range detection of the RFID chip (ride photos and so on), while near-field use (like scanning your band for FP, etc) does not require batteries. Here's a link that was shared in the thread: https://atdisneyagain.com/2014/01/27/making-the-band-magicband-teardown-and-more/

In theory you could use both interchangeably as it appears the puck is just the parts that are in the band in a puck instead. So if the tech stays the same you should be able to use your MB no problem just like you can have more than 1 active MB and use them to get into the parks and get photopass and FP and stuff no problem.

The existing bands will continue to work. I think the puck if they go to that will be a replacement for those buying or ordering new.

Dooney and Bourke magic band, how in the world did I miss that. Where do you get one?

They were not the price of the average MB.

If you live close enough or are visiting soon you might check at one of the DS stores that had them - can't remember which one it was though.

I'm out of it. What is this new "puck" thing about? First I've seen / read of it.

Omg I missed the D & B magic band also! I am having a melt down lol... How fabulous.
