I wear glasses and have very poor eyesight without them. Can I wear these when doing the dophin swim at Discovery Cove??? If not I suppose I could wear my contact lenses but would be scared about losing them in the water.

I wouldn't be able to see a thing without one or the other.

I would weare your contact lenses. You do put your face in the water to see the dolphins under water and you get splashed. You are provided with face masks, so that should help with your contact lenses. My family and I went last May and had the BEST time. ;)

Found this on the DC website on the FAQ page:

Prescription Masks (Top)
Discovery Cove offers special prescription masks in various strengths. For more information on this, please call 1-877-4-DISCOVERY.

DD wears glasses and I will inquire about this for our trip in March. Her vision isn't that bad, but if she can get a prescription mask close to hers that'll make the visit all that much better!

My mum got the prescription mask...the woman in the store was amazing...she just looked at my mum's glasses and picked the right mask for her....

My husband was not allowed to wear his glasses in the pool (last August). His eyesight is not that bad, so we did not inquire about the masks. I guess it's dangerous for the dolphins, if they fell off of you.

In November, they allowed my DD9 to wear her glasses while swimming with the dolphin. I just went back and checked my picture of her kisssing the dolphin and her glasses were there. We tried to get her a pair of the prescription goggles (she's a -2.75) but were told the prescription power did not start untl a -4.0 (I think that is correct). My DD did say that she could see fine with the normal goggles when we were snorkeling but knew she would not be able to see the dolphin out of the water without her glasses.

Last November I wore my perscription sun glasses with a band that strapped them to my head tight and they told me that was allowed as long as they were restrained with some sort of band so they won't fall off.

I always wear contacts in the water and I've never lost one yet.

Scottish-Helen, I wore my prescription sunglasses for the dolphin swim. I had one of those loose straps on them so if they did come off they would hang round my neck rather than end up in the water but they were secure without this because unlike ordinary sunglasses the prescription ones are fitted properly to you by your optician.

I borrowed one of DC's prescription masks for the snorkelling. I took details of my prescription with me but if you don't there is no problem, the lady in the shop was really helpful.

whatever you decide to do, you are going to have a wonderful day. I hope to go back there one day. :cloud9:

I know this doesn't really answer your question but i wanted to tell you anyway!! 2 years ago we had booked to go to DC and a month before we flew out i decided to have my eyes lazered just so that i could see the dolphins properly!! It has been one of the best things that i have had done - cost $2000 for both eyes but worth every penny (or cent!). :thumbsup2
