I was wondering if I would be allowed to being on my Sony Mini DV Camcorder on Big Thunder Mountain? I could record with my Kodak V550 Digital Camera (fits in my pocket), but was wondering if it would be possible to use a video camera? Is there a list somewhere of what rides I can and cannot use a video camera with in each of the parks? Thanks!

I don't think there are any rides where you aren't allowed to use a camera. As for BTMRR, I haven't videotaped but I did shoot a bunch of digital stills last time and they came out just fine. I could just as easily have used the movie mode of my camera and shot video.

I'm pretty sure you can still bring a video camera on this ride. My family did many years ago. Even though it was a bumpy ride, it's still one of our favorite home movies to watch when we need a Disney fix! :cool1:

I have never videoed on BTMR but I did video on the HM since my video camera had a nightvision setting. That was pretty cool. Unfortunatly that camera no longer works - only had it for a year or so. Didn't use it much either.

Thanks for the info - do you think a low lux video camera can be used in the Haunted Mansion or should I use the night vision on the dark rides?

I believe that the only problem with filming would be with the external light on during dark rides. Something that would possibly ruin any fun of the other guests. When we were there in Apr of 2004 I used our video camera on everything. It is great when you come home and you need that Disney fix and just watch the video. The fun video is that of TOT and SM...

I do not have an external flash and that would be annoying for everyone else - I agree. However, I have not used the video camera much, but it does work very well in night shot, but everything is green. Did you use any special modes when recording inside the dark rides? Any tips to get the best quality or tips specific to certain rides?

I've video taped Big Thunder and it turned out great! Just make sure you have a solid hand grip on the camera and a backup strap wrapped around your hand just in case! Also, try and hold in as steady as possible facing forward with a wide shot. Don't try and pan back and forth or people will get dizzy watching it.

Re Nightshots in dark attractions. You definitely don't want to use any external lighting in any attraction. Distrubs other guests and can in fact be dangerous in some shows (Little Mermaid, etc). If you video camera supports a slow shutter speed or mode, try that before you try Nightshot. It will usually work way better. Nightshot typically uses an infrared light to light up 10-15 ft in front of the camera and is usually a greenish look. Mainly to be used in total darkness areas.

When using slow shutter mode you'll see things are brighter but movement is the issue. If you or the camera or the subject you are shooting is moving much at all it'll be blurry. So try and use it when shooting static scenes or screens that are fixed. You'll be amazed at how well some shots turn out in very dark situations.
