We're going on a trip to DL, and I'm interested in doing the DVC open house/tour. But, we will have the three kids and I just don't see it working for all of us to go. I was thinking of scheduling a visit either early in the morning, when they're unlikely to want to be up yet, or mid-day while they play in the pool/nap. Can I do it without my DH?

You sure can. I did it. But, they have a kids play area there at SSR for the kids to play while you tour and you and your DH could take the tour. My kids didn't want to leave and had a great time. And they got ice cream at the end of the tour.

(Edited: D'oh!! I did it again. I read too fast. Don't know anything about DL. Sorry.)

Sounds like the OP was talking about taking the tour at DisneyLand. I'm not sure what they have there for accomodations for kids (but considering this is Disney we are talking about I'm sure there is something).

All I know is that my mother-in-law took the tour at Disneyland and left not interested. When my wife called her to tell her that we bought in she told us we were stupid because the points could only be used to go to disney parks. Whatever guide she had didn't really give her the whole speil about going to other non-disney locales....grr, which with my mother-in-law's penchant for Disney and world travel, I thought she'd be a perfect candidate

Thanks!
Another question...can I/should I make a reservation for this before I go? Or when I get there?

I'm not sure how Disneyland works, but when my wife and I were at Disneyworld we just walked up to the kiosk and asked to take the tour and we were on a van to the location to meet our guide within 15 minutes. But if you know what time and date will work for you and there is a method to pre-reserve (which I haven't looked so I don't know), it doesn't hurt. Then you have it "locked in" and don't forget about it when you are having fun.

We were having so much fun at Disneyworld for 10 days that we almost forgot to do it. We talked about it from the first day but kept saying we'd get to it tomorrow.

Hi,

When DH and I did the tour at WDW last year, Disney had a wonderful kid area for my three kids, and the kids had a blast! They ended their time with a sundae at a really cute sundae station. When we returned to WDW this year, they asked if they could back to the tour facility for the ice cream! (Of course, keep in mind that my kids are under 5, so older kids may prefer to hang by the pool. I do recall a TV as well as games at the play center.)

While we did the "walk-up-to-the-kiosk" at a spur of the moment in Epcot, I am sure that you can reserve a specific time for a tour. I am not sure how long a typical tour takes, but we got along really well with our guide and spent 4 hours at SSR. In short, Disney was very accommodating.

I am sure something similar happens at DL. I would call up the number from the Disney website on the DVC and ask about it. They may be able to tell you what is at their version of play center if they have one so you can judge whether or not to bring the kids.

Good luck, and enjoy the tour!

Not sure of the answer either in DL. I would ask from them when you call from the number on the Disney website about the DVC. It also depends on how scheduled you are for the trip. I do not think it would hurt to ask, but I am thinking that they are not really rigid about when you come in for a tour. That was the impression I got in WDW from my walk up to the DVC kiosk and get to SSR in 15 minutes.
Also, my tour was probably longer than most because I did the initial paperwork for a contract. I saw others who just took the info home to consider it more, and they left in much less time.
