Can I take a car and have DME take my bags?

We are landing at 9:15 and have a 10am cabana rental at the GF. Right now, we are scheduled to get ME, but I am considering renting a car for the first day instead so that we can get to GF ASAP so as to not miss much of our rental time, and to also use the car the following morning to get some groceries off site.

First, do you think there's anyway I'd get to the GF by 10:15 if I took ME?
Second, if I rented a car, do you think I'd get to the GF quicker?
Third, if I didn't change my ME reservation, *but rented a car and didn't get on the bus,* would they still pick up my bags and deliver them to the room?

Regrettably you will probably not make it to your resort via Magical Express within 60 minutes of stepping off the plane but you have good chances of getting to your resort in 80 minutes if you don't stop for a snack or at the restroom in the airport. Once you have the cabana, how long do you get to keep it?

With a rental car you will probably get there a little quicker compared with DME but within 60 minutes is still iffy, considering you need to inspect the car for pre-existing damage with a fine toothed comb.

Before 10 PM, yellow tagged bags coming off the planes at MCO are summarily removed to the resorts via trucks and unsynchronized with guest movements.

There is a whole thread devoted to this subject. I am not going to get into the why's and the wherefore's of should you or shouldn't you. Read the thread and make your own choices.

If you 'land' at 9:15, you won't be stepping off the plane and through the gate until close to 9:30. You would take about 10 mins to get to the car rental area. Plan on it taking about 10 mins (least amount of time I would think, and probably more) at the rental counter. Then, 5 mins over to the car. Takes at least 30 mins to get from MCO to WDW. So, using the above times, you could be at the GF by 10:30. Using DME will take another 30 mins...tops. If you used DME, you would, most likely, be at GF by 10:45-11.
For groceries? I would just use either wegohop.com or gardengrocer.com. Yes, they charge a delivery fee, but it's a lot less than the cost of a rental car. And you don't give up precious vacation time wandering around a grocery store.

The last few trips I took DME with the kids while DH picked up a rental car and drove. Each time we got to the resort within 5 minutes of each other. And that was without him getting any bags. So getting your bags and driving may take longer.

The OP was asking about not having to get his bags....and not riding the bus. But yes, getting your own bags would add about 15+ mins to the time.

Sorry. I read it as 3 separate questions. My actual point was, he/she probably won't get there any quicker by renting a car. Whether or not he/she gets their bags

I suppose...but keep in mind, you are only saving 25 mins or so.
Here is a breakdown of my times...
1. DME....between 60 and 85 mins.
2. Mears shuttle....carryon bag only.....90 mins
3. Car service...carryon bag only.....45 mins
4. Car service....checked bags....60 mins

So, using 9:15 as landing time (keeping in mind that you could very well be delayed)...
DME...gate to resort....10:45 latest
Car service....gate to resort....10:15 (no bags collected)
Car service...gate to resort.....10:40 (bags collected)
Rental car...gate to resort....10:30ish (no bags collected)

I'm just not sure I would pay $80+ to save 30 mins. But, that's not my choice. I just want to give you the best info I have.
