Ok sorry if this is a dumb question but never had this issue before. Hubby started a new job and is still under 3 month probation period with no paid days. I had booked a 3 night stay at Beach Club while he was at his other job. So now if he takes 3 days off we will be loosing a big chunk of money. Would I even be able to switch it to 2 nights on the weekend or is it too late? The ressies are Jan 4-7. I was so looking forward to time away but can't justify loosing that much money. Is renting my ressies an option? Again sorry if this is dumb but just never experienced any of this before. TIA

Is this a reservation made with you own points? If so, you've got until 31 days out to cancel without your points going into holding. From 1-31 days the points go into holding which means they can only be used for reservations less than 60 days. Canceling in the day of arrival forfeits all points for the entire stay. If you can't go some or all of your days I would recommend canceling immediately to avoid going into holding. Depending on the status of your points and your use year you may be able to bank those if you can't find a time that works this year.

If this is a reservation made with someone else's points you'll have to work through them, but the same rules apply.

If it was a cash reservation you are subject to different rules if it was a vacation package or room only.

Assuming you are the DVC owner and not a renter, this far out from your reservation, you would have no penalties for cancelling and rebooking, if there is something available. However, depending upon your use year month, you may or may not be able to bank those point into the next use year. If you are renting, it is entirely up to the DVC owner or the rental broker as to whether they will try to work with you. General rule is that rented reservations are final transactions, no changes...but you won't know if you don't ask.

Since your current dates do not include the weekend and thus you cannot just drop a night, you can make the change only if there is availability for the weekend you want, which I am guessing is unlikely this close to your trip. Nevertheless, you should go on the DVC Member site and check the resort availability tool to see if there are openings anywhere. You could attempt to rent the reservation but that faces the serious issue of being able find somone quickly to take it since you are approaching the 30 day out holding date. If nothing else is open for the weekend, cancellation would seem to be the best option if you can otherwise use the points later or bank them.

You are barely outside your 31 days window. I would cancel your reservation and rebook. There is a studio available at SSR and a 1BR at BWV right now but that's about it. Of course, you will lose your FP+ reservations :(.

You can't drop nights from a reservation? I want aware of this, can you elaborate?

I think Drusba was saying IF the OPs reservation had included the weekend they want, they could just drop the unwanted days. Yes, you can drop nights, as long as they are at either end. You can't drop nights from the middle.

Sorry I thought I had mentioned they were on our points. Been a rough day.
Just remember, you have through TOMORROW to cancel that reservation without the points going into holding which is a PITB to deal with.

I just called and the rep couldn't have been any nicer. Got it switched to the weekend. And got our points back except 6 but he was putting in a request and he didn't think there would be a problem getting them back. This has never happened to us before in the 4 years since we have owned. Not staying at Beach Club which is a huge bummer for me but that is ok. It is a tradition for our anniversary to be on property. That is all I care about. thanks so much!

I'm glad it all worked out for you. :)
