Can I survive giving up my BWView to try BCV?

7 month window is approaching and I'm trying to decide . . . have a 2 bedroom BWView for first week of October (DH and I at Swan for 3 nights for F&W, joined on Sunday by my sis, nephew (7), 2 DD's (25, 28), DGrD (2) for the rest of the week). DH will be leaving Sun to come home to DS. Seems like the perfect trip to try a stay at BCV. Am thinking that the little ones (7,2) would be at good ages for SAB. We could add Fla niece and family to room for a night so they could join us at the pool (she also will have 4 yo and newborn). I just LOVE that boardwalk view soooo much in the mornings and evenings - BCV lovers, help reassure me - I know, I keep telling myself "it's not like you'll never go back" - I just signed up for a zillion years of DVC (well, maybe not a zillion, but that's what I told DH when he saw the check! ;) )! :smooth:

PS: I should probably add that the last several trips have been at my beloved BWV (mostly in the BWView)!

Looking across the lake at BWV from BCV isn't such a bad view either. AND you can get to BW in 3 minutes on the boat if withdrawls are that bad. Go for it. Change is good! If you don't like BCV as much as BWV at leat you'll know for the future. On the other hand you may like it better. I think they're both fine resorts. Be bold.

Would that be through the Beach Club or over it? :) Not certain there are many rooms that do, if any - unless you are talking about when you are at SAB?

Anyway - my opinion - stay where the adults want to stay. The kids will have a great time no matter where you are. So if you and other want to try SAB, then go there and be happy. I wouldn't change because of a 7 yo and a toddler.

Definitely go for Beach Club.

The fact that I am trying for Boardwalk Villas in October on a seven month window has nothing to do with this advice!!!!

You sound like us a few months ago. We have the majority of our points at the BWV and love them, I might add. A couple of years ago we added on at the BCV but had always used those points for other stays until last December. We had 5 nights in a BW GV with some friends and decided to try a 1 bdr at the BCV after they left for 6 nights. I have to say we had a great experience. We were on the 5th floor and had a direct view of Epcot. I thought we had a good view of Illuminations from our BW view, but it didn't hold a candle to the view from the BCV. It was awesome! Some of the fireworks lit up the whole area and you could see all the people out on their balconies. We also loved being able to park close. It was quiet and the CMs were all very friendly. It was a nice change for us and we certainly would do it again.

Yes, there are lucky views from BCV. But not that many. This resort's charm is in its laid back ambiance (people walk barefoot through the lobby), its white sand beach, the quick walk to Epcot, and SAB. Enjoy each resort for its own strengths and you'll have a great time at any of them.

I have to say that BCV is my favorite...so, that part of me is telling you to "go for it"...but, if BWV is the "ultimate" for you....why would you want to do anything else? People feel that certain resorts are a good "fit" with them. If you love the "hubbub" of the bw view....BCV may in fact be "too slow" or "too out of the way" for you. Vacations are precious time....stay where you will be "thrilled" to be there. No one says you have to try all the resorts to get your money's worth!!!

If view means alot to you, then I would choose your gtd view at BWV.
I agree with Rocketriter, BCV views are purely luck, especially with the construction of Soaring at Epcot threatening to block the already limited view rooms.

If the first thought that pops in your head when you open the curtains at BCV is "I gave up BWview for this?" then stay where you will be most happy.

I didnt consider us "view people" either but when we have one, we spend more time on the balcony.

We still love BCV, but not for the view. Last year I kept our 2 bdr curtains drawn because the view was frustrating me and I didnt want to go out on the balcony at all. If you do decide BCV, I would request a pool view because there are better chances of getting that than an Epcot view.

We've had great views at SSR last year with only CPark being open so we chose to stay there and enjoy that view as much as we could before the other buildings open.

If you are considering BCV for SAB access, keep in mind that many here say that it is easier to keep an eye on the small ones at the BWV pool.

Best wishes -

I hope to soon be a BWV member (pixie dust for ROFR).
Since you love BWV and have stayed often, I was hoping you could tell me what area/kind of view I could request if ressing a Standard Studio or a Preferred Studio.....Don't quite know what is available with each and want my FIRST 'welcome home' to be magical!
Thanks,
Colorado Belle

you just gotta go for it, especially since you've been at BWV for several years in a row. maybe you'll love bcv more than bwv, maybe you will not love it as much as BWV, but you will never know unless you try. Either way your going to have a great trip, its not like you can really go wrong.

Thank you all so much for your replies - more food for thought ! I've decided to have a meeting with the other moms (my sis and my DD) and show them pics of SAB to decide whether swimming there would outweigh the BWview. I hadn't stopped to think that it might be more difficult to watch the kids there - but also read a recent post on the slide being a bit remote for a 7 yo to do by himself. And I keep thinking I will be spending some evenings watching the kids so the moms can get some time to themselves - makes the BWview a plus. Such a great decision to have to make. . . you're right, I can't go wrong!

I'm not much help with a standard view - only used it once with DS - we were on the ground floor, down the side, overlooking the front entrance and it was just fine with us (our first time in a 1 br, we thought we'd died and gone to heaven!). We've stayed 3 times in 2 br, BWview - Dec trip was supposed to be standard view studio and we were upgraded (without asking! - we had an angel along on that trip!) to a 1 br pref view of the S/D - last month we booked a std view 1 br and we were given the 'tent' view - but the tent came down the 2nd day - so we've been very lucky! :smooth:

Andrew - Good luck at 7 mos ! - maybe you'll get my room . . . maybe not ;)

Yeah, but aren't those just the nasty, low-rent DVCers who cause resorts to lose their stars??? Too much of that and you're gonna end up on a list!!! :teeth:
