Can I "sell" reservation?

Just found out our dog has cancer and not long to live. DH & I have 4 nite Dream cruise reservations 8-12 Dec 2014. If our dog hasn't passed away, she'll be in no shape to go to the kennel. If she has passed away, we won't be much in a vacation state of mind. Trip insurance doesn't cover dog health. So can we "sell" our reservation? We booked online - concierge level - and have a cabana reserved...:confused3

I can't respond to the question of selling a reservation, but as an incredible dog lover may I make a suggestion?

Can you leave your dog in the care of a trusted dogsitter? Someone who will overnight in your home?

Don't think so. Because you'd have to change out the names on the reservation, and changing all the names on any reservation is considered a cancellation. Only suggestion I have is call DCL and see if they will be willing to transfer a portion of your cruise fare to a future cruise. Or just cancel and take the loss.

Concierge deposits are non-refundable and you are now in the 55-30 day window for penalties (you lose 50% of your cruise fare) on cancellation.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog's diagnosis. I lost my dog to osteosarcoma last year and know it is not an easy journey. I totally understand that you don't want to leave your dog. I think your best bet is to call DCL and explain the situation. I feel like there is a possibility they may be willing to transfer your cruise to a future date. I don't think you can sell your vacation.

Call dcl and see what they can do for you. I was able to substitute my sister in law for my husband when he ended up being unable to go last minute. They didn't treat it as a cancellation and we were booked concierge too.

But were you changing out all the names on the reservation? Or just one? That makes a difference. Just changing one name is a "change". Changing all the names is a "cancellation" of the original reservation.

Can you add a name, and then closer to sail date, remove OP and DH and add a new name?

Concierge deposits are non refundable, any change their deposit will be lost and within cancellation periods a higher percentage lost. The only option is too move the reservation on not change names but it will be treated as a cancellation. Therefore some money will be lost.

No just one. I still think op might as well call. She has nothing to lose in doing so

OP, sorry to hear about your dog. It is never easy when a beloved pet is near the end.

If your dog does pass before the cruise you may find taking the cruise is the best medicine. It is tough now as the longer you wait, the more money you could potentially lose on the reservation.

No, at least one person from the original reservation must remain or the entire reservation is treated as a cancellation by DCL.

I have no idea if this would work, but if you left one person on the reservation, then added two others as the second and third berths, there would be some additional expense, but this might suffice. The big question is, what happens if the original person from that reservation doesn't show up.

I'm sooo sorry to hear this
I would try getting the vaca postponed to a later date, even if it means calling dozens of times.
if all fails then Not that this a good thing to do, but find out what is covered by insurance and try getting that to happen within reason of course, just saying - no flames please

I'm very sorry about your dog.

From personal experience, DH's brother unexpectedly died exactly a month before we were to set sail in 2012. It felt weird to be taking a vacation so soon, it turned out to be very therapeutic for DH and I. I wish we could have taken our inlaws with us.

Lisa is absolutely correct. This is pretty standard on any cruise line as well WDW. One of the people from the original reservation must stay on the reservation or it is a cancellation.

To the OP, I don't have any advice for you except that you cannot resell it.

That would be great but from what that said the OP would have to have purchased the Disney Travel Insurance prior to March 6, 2014 to get full credit. But is that the PIF date or just the booking date :confused3

Woohoo! Thanks, NeilD!!!:cheer2:

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes, responses and ideas. After having called DCL at least twice a day for the past week, with no luck or pixie dust, I was pretty sad.

All I had to do was read the fine print and call Allianz - they explained - no, our dog's illness is not covered but DCL will credit 100% of the canceled cruise cost to a future cruise - awesome!

Thanks again, NeilD - and to everyone else, too!

Is it a "flame" to point out that what you appear to be suggesting would equate to a felony? I must be misunderstanding, as surely no one here would propose committing a crime that can land a person in prison, right? I can almost read the prosecution referral now.....she called in to check coverage and exclusions at 10am on the 30th. We received a claim on the 10th. Insured denies exclusions. Neighbor told investigator dog died....

Open- sorry you are in this pickle. Try DCL. Sadly, you may have limited options at this point.
