I am returning to BWV in a few weeks and I will make a point of taking my time to talk to the BWV manager again regarding the parking policy, just to make sure that nothing has changed since our last conversation, and then I will gladly post the results here on this board when I return. The first conversations I had with the mgr and CMs regarding BW parking policy I did not mention how parking at their lot to enter parks was so publized on the internet, maybe this is something they should be aware of and maybe once and for all this problem can be eliminated. One can only hope!
I really hope so, too. Please post when you return. I'll be very interested to see what the manager says. I am willing to bet it won't make any difference at all.
When this subject came up at the 2002 annual meeting, the BWV/BWI General Manager said that they were thinking of "swapping" the valet and self-parking lots. I'm paraphrasing, but he said that the valet lot is seldom, if ever, full and the self lot seems to be always full. The self lot would be closer for the valets, also. I'd be interested to see if this actually happened as it will be more than 4 months since the statements were made. I got the impression that this subject has come up at every annual meeting at least for the last few years and nothing much has changed.
FWIW, I think the BW managment is very much aware of how the lots are being utilized. IMHO, they just don't want to spend any money to do something about it. It doesn't seem to be affecting the occupancy rate at BWV, and if the occupancy rate BWI isn't at least as good as the other deluxe hotels, they apparently haven't attributed it to the parking situation. I have no idea how BWI does compared to the other hotels, but it often seems to have rooms available when the other deluxes do not. Wonder how much repeat business it gets that isn't convention related??
The manager also said that they make the construction workers and the hotels staff use the overflow lot. He also said that they ask the convention attendees to use that lot as well. Don't know how they enforce that part, but I don't think the conventioners are much of a problem as they are usually gone well before the late afternoon/early evening crunch begins.
I wrote an email letter after I returned from our last trip (11/29 - 12/7). I did eventually get a call back, which I didn't expect. Again, I was just told that parking couldn't be controlled at BW because it was a "destination". I didn't get an answer about parking for the hotel guests other than since I was DVC, I could valet park for free. (Guess they don't count the tips, LOL).
I really don't understand why the Boardwalk management doesn't feel any obligation to hotel guests in this area. We aren't traveling to the BWV again until December. If the situation is still the same, I think I will ask to talk to the manager, too. Can't hurt.
