I am trying to save $$ by taking the breakfast items and some other stuff with us.
I am planning on buying milk at SSR,..but I wanted to bring like bottled water, juice, pop, & snacks stuff too.
Can I pack the liquid stuff as long as I check the bags???:confused3 And will pop be ok?? I am a diet cole freak :drinking1 and have NO IDEA how far we'll be from the main bldgs in order to use the refill mugs deal.

Can I buy Diet Coke in the SSR store, like a 2 liter or 6 pack?

Thanks for any help!

We have taken a rolling cooler before (it is a collapsable one.) We filled it with frozen foods for breakfast. Worked great and we used the case for dirty clothes on the way back home. Personally, I would not pack liquids (especially carbonated ones) due to the rough handling that happens from Point A to Point Z. We have always had water delivered from Staples. I believe they deliver sodas as well. I would look into a service like that or Garden Grocer to deliver the liquids.

My understanding is that you can check those. But as a courtesy make sure you place the liquids in a large ziploc in case there's a leak. That way it saves your suitcase and whoever else has one near yours! :D

The airlines have become very strict about weight limits on suitcases.
So you will want to weigh your bag at home.
Water is heavy, you know that old rhyme, "A pint's a pound the world around".

The resorts do have drink machines...like $2 per coke.
The little stores in the resorts are also high on soft drinks.
But the milk was fairly reasonable by WDW standards.

i have ordered from garden grocer for these items. i found their prices are reasonable compared to here, and much better than buying solo drinks at disney. have it delivered on your arrival day, and the resort will keep all cold foods/diary cold for you until you arrive. it is also much easier than handling an extra piece of luggage. as a tip that i use always, i buy a cheap toaster from a local dollar store and pack that. then, i can have toast, bagels, pop tarts in the am before heading into the parks. we always get the dining plan, but it is great to leave with food already in my belly...plus i;m spoiled and have to have my french vanilla creamer in my coffee :woohoo:

Aside from the weight issue, packing any carbonated beverage is just asking for disaster.

Not every plane pressurizes and temp-controls their cargo holds (which is why pets as cargo cannot always be accommodated). At 30K feet, with freezing temperatures, I can only imagine how a can/bottle of soda would react.

I packed water & soda bottles in our luggage. I was afraid of them exploding also, so I got those really big ziplock bags at the supermarket and loaded the bottles in - just in case. They never exploded though!! :cool1:

I just took water and bottled juice on Southwest. Fearing the worst...
I packed them first in gallon zip locks, then in a grocery plastic bag tied off on the top; finely, a small garbage bag knotted at the top. Nothing broke or leaked. I brought small bottles - two fit in the ice bucket for cooling them down.

The bags came in handy through out the trip as well. As stated, watch your luggage weight.

Please don't pack soda on a airplane unless it has been privately chartered or owned.

With the airlines now charging extra for both the 1st and 2nd bag it would be a lot more economical to just have the food and drinks delivered to your hotel.

I honestly wouldn't do it. I would pack all of my snacks but not my drinks. They are too heavy! I wouldn't want to end up paying an extra $50 dollars for an overweight bag because of a 2 liter of soda! Plus the thought of a soda exploding in my bag is enough to make me say NO WAY! I always pack our snacks or breakfast for our trip. I just throw them in my carryon so they don't get crushed.

by the way,..I have another question. I already asked this on another thread, but no response,:rolleyes1 ...here's to not killing this thread with the same question.:goodvibes

Do the stores at the DVC resorts have cream cheese? (ssr?) OR, if not...could I freeze it,...then pack it with an ice pack in a soft cooler in the checked bags? (2 hour flight, non stop) Would it taste ok after being froozen, and do you think it'll keep? :confused3 I would rather not buy perishables from the G.G people.

Cream cheese doesn't freeze well. The water can separate out and never re-combine, making it crumbly and gross.

The stores at the resorts do sell cream cheese. I buy it every trip for my bagels.

I packed water and soda last year when we went for 7 days. I had 2 large suitcases and I packaged it like the other poster said. then put it between clothes. When I weighed it on my scale i was real close to the 50lbs. but when the airline weighed it, it was only 39 lbs. and the other was 42Lbs. It survived the flight just fine. And it didn't lose its carbonation. I won't be doing it this year as I will have 3 small children with me so I hope to have light suitcases. I will be shipping a box down ahead of time.

just to let you know, we got milk, cream cheese, butter, sandwich meat and cheese with some other things to go in the fridge and everything was fine. we didn't get to our room until about 8 pm, called desk services and it was delivered for us. i already have all that stuff ordered for the next trip too...along with some bananas and apples (kids love their fruit). just a tip, if you order milk, order it in the 1/2 gallon size. we ordered 3 1/2 gallon and they fit great, the whole gallons dont fit as easily.

Just an FYI,I used Garden Grocer for the first time a few weeks ago, and I ordered alot of perishables and fresh fruits and veggies. Everything was FRESH, I was very impressed.

Well, I ordered from Garden Grocer yesterday, and ordered perishables too. Seem so easy...:goodvibes
Hope it all works out, but I sure do feel a whole lot better. The idea of having to pack all of that stuff was not a fun one.

Do you guys over order,..or under order??? I am still not sure I ordered the right amount... oh well. I went for under since we COULD go to the resort store if we have to.

I feel like I am obsessing over this and NEED TO STOP!:bitelip:

But just 8 days out and I have to obsess over somthing, the itenerary is done :thumbsup2 shopping for things is done :thumbsup2 the packing is almost finished:thumbsup2 So,..this is all I have to think about. :rolleyes1

And as of yesterday,...it's done!!! What am I goning to do for 8 more days?
