Can I "officially" add 5 to a room that states it sleeps 4?

You can get away with the 5 in a 1 bed room at a DVC resort. Though it isn't the "official" policy written in our contracts, member services alow it and will book 5 in a 1 bedroom and you will get the 5 keys to your room.

I rented the points here on the Dis boards. Do I have to contact the person I rented them from to get her to add the name to the reservation proir to arrival or can I just tell them at the front desk upon check in?

I know that it is a tuff decision when someonw throws a kink into all of your planning. Good luck and let us know how you handle it.

Tell me about it!
I didn't even think of changing all my dining ressies...WOW! I hope we can still get in where we want to. And what happens if we book it for 5 and he decides not to come, is that as much as a problem as the reverse?
We are on the dining plan once we go to the BCV and I was going to pay cash for his food but he is picky and chances are that he may not join us every night for dinner. So that is kinda good.
The problem is that changing all my plans that I have spent months researching and preparing (down to a detailed chart...I am a little anal) I now have to try and scramble to change in less than 2 weeks. While he might "understand" he cant come to Extra Magic Hour because he is a teenager my husband and I would feel terrible excluding him so chances are we would not take the family on those morning or evenings so I feel like "now what?".
I guess we have to do what we must.
I better get crackin!

You will have a problem if you add him to your ressie at the BCV, and then don't buy him the dining plan. They simply will not let you do it. Everyone who is in the room, and named on the ressie has to purchase the dining plan. If you all do not do the dining plan then when you check into the BCV I would just let them know then you have an extra guest and ask for a room card for him. Does he realize how much of a mess he caused??!!!LOL:lmao: Have you thought about just getting him his own room? You said he isn't going for the whole trip, just 5 days. Does that overlap with both stays? Maybe a better option since you want the dining plan but he doesn't need it is to get him a room at the all stars. He is old enough to be at his own place and I'm sure he would love it! He would be traveling alone anyway. That way he can come and go as he pleases and then join you when ever he wanted. Just a thought.
To answer your question:
It doesn't matter if you are a renter or owner, DVC will allow 5 in a 1 bedroom. You can contact the person you rented from if you want to tell them about the extra person.

Doesn't AKL have the rooms configured for 5 people ? The Q, single, and bunk beds ? Can you try and switch your reservation. I'm pretty sure they were one of the few that could 'legally' handle 5. (have things changed?)

It would actually be cheaper to add him to to the dining plan than get his own room. How would that work once he leaves? Would we still get the 'credits' for his meal? I actually have never done the DP before and do not know exactly how it works. If the meals wouldn't go to waste it would be worth it.I would have the family do some sit down breakfasts as well as dinners

The info that I am seeing online says they sleep 4 so I am not sure if they changed.

AKL has some larger rooms that sleep 5, but most sleep 4. I think the larger rooms are called deluxe rooms, and cost a bit more money.

At AKL a deluxe bunkbed room will accomodate 5. You can get pool or savannah view in the deluxe rooms. That would give you a queen bed, bunks and a day bed.

Thanks! You are right. I did see that on one site even though some others said the rooms only sleep 4. Point is moot now though cuz I just called Disney and they are sold out of those rooms. Bummer! The only thing I can find with my AP rate (or maybe at any rate) are the High end rooms at the Deluxe resorts and that is way out of my price range. They want an approximate $300-450 MORE for just the 2 nights. I think that would be just a waste of money. Others have suggested to stay in 2 rooms at the Value resorts but that too would be more than what I am paying to stay in a pool view at the AkL with a passholder rate. Honestly, I would rather be cramped for the little time that we would spend in the room and have that beautiful resort and pool than to down grade to a value. Don't get me wrong, I have stayed in the ASM before but for me it is just not the same as staying in a Deluxe. Nobody likes to downgrade! I will just have to re arrange my plans to exclude the EMH for those 2 days and add him to the food plan at the BCV.

What AP rate did you get for poolview? If AKL is offering that great a rate, maybe I will switch to it!!! The values are $79/night with AP discount in Peak Season.

Thanks!
Beth

The pool view room is $150. With tax for the 2 nights it was aprox $330.
The only rooms left in the All Star were at the AS Sports (not thrilled) and 'Preferred rooms' which were running with tax at about 80 - 85 per night so to book 2 rooms there (the whole 5 in a room thing)would have been on par or a little more that what I am paying at the AKL. But AKL is sooooooooo much nicer in my opionion.

Take into consideration that I am staying in Value season...but it is worth a call just to compare.
