CAn I meet BEar?

Is there anywhere in MGM ( or anywhere) where I can meet BEar from Bear in the Big blue house..I know about the show...but I want to shake his hand!

Oh, what a great question. I'm thinking the answer is 'no' as I've never heard mention of him in a character greet and I didn't come across him when we were in MGM but my daughter would be thrilled to meet him, and I wouldn't mind it myself either! He's such a gentlemanly bear! lol I really wish Bear was included in the characters at the new Hollywood & Vine character meal but unfortunately he's not.

Sorry, there is nowhere that you can have a one on one interaction with Bear. However, if you ask a CM after the show, they would be happy to take your autograph book out back so that Bear can stamp it for you.

I didn't know that! Thanks!!!! My DD will be thrilled to get his 'autograph'. She cried when the show ended when we were there last year so this year I plan on bringing her to it at least twice!

No problem. We found out simply by utilizing the Golden Disney Rule . . . "If there's anything reasonable you'd like to do, ask a CM". We asked if there was any way we could see Bear for a moment to get his autograph, and she was the one who explained he had to get ready for the next show but she could run my DD's autograph book back for us. We'd been honestly expectiong just a flat "no".

It's a very cute signature.

Well I feel i need to jump in here an enligten you a bit on what Bear is.

Bear is not a character in the traditional sence of mickey and the like. He is a full body puppet. Bear did do meet and greats for a very short time, but he encountered a lot of damage. Bear is one of the most expensive characters in the entire Disney family.

There was talks of having bear in the playhouse disney breakfast, but that was stated by people who did not understand how bear works. Thankfuly those who know the character stoped it.

Bear does not see through the conventional means that other characters do.
IN fact the performer inside is totaly blind. All he has is a 5x5 monitor straped to his chest that is connected to fiber opitc cameras in his eyes. if these go out, which they do all the time, he/she is blind. Also bear has what is known as a dead arm. it is attached by string to the other real arm, so every time the arm moves the dead arm reacts. This works well, but its very obvious up close. also kids tend to pull on the string. Big Bird is the exact same design.

Now I will say this Bear does still do meet and greats, but this is reserved soly for those Make a wish or give kids the world kids who specificaly request it.

Yeah I did notice bears fine monofiliment lines on each arm...I can even see them on TV....but I had no idea of the sofistication...wow!

I didn't know he did private meets for special occasions, that's great! I'm a HUGE Henson fan and am the type of person who over-analyzes the puppet construction and watches all the "making of" Henson stuff I can get my hands on, so I had a very good idea of why they did not bring Bear out for lunches or even character lines anywhere, though I was also unaware that they had tried it. ug, I feel so bad for the performer and the maintenance folks for that one . . . .

Lets just say i work closley with bear in the DSMC. This was my last day at Playhouse and right before i left my college program.
