Can I make special requests for the DLR train?

Hi, someone told me that at the Main Street station for the train I can ask the conductor if my son can ride up front with the engineer or in the back in a car called the Lilly Belle (?) Can anyone verify this for me? I dont want to look dumb when I ask!
And what's the right way to ask--who do I ask and what am I asking for?

Find a conductor at the main street station. If you want to ride in the engine you ask if you can ride the tender. If you want to ride the VIP car you ask to ride the Lilly Belle. I do not know if there is an age restriction for riding the tender. Keep in mind this is totally up to the conductor at the station. It also depends on which trains are on the line. I have been allowed to ride the Lilly Belle. If you don not get on either, watch for the train with the caboose. Often times you can ride in the caboose.

Only engines 1 & 2 the C.K. Holliday and the E.P. Ripley are equipped with seat belts for tender rides which start and end at main street.

I believe it's 1 child who can be accompanied by 1 adult.

Or maybe he said both our 4 yr olds could... with only one adult? Haha I don't remember. It was late and we were really tired. We were already on board in NO when I asked so we would have had to wait to get back to MS the go all the way around again. So we said thank you very much and headed out.
