Can I Make Reservations Even If I'm Not Officially Going Yet?

Just what the title asks. I'm still up in there air as to if I am going to Disney World this year yet (would be at the end of August). The Free Dining is a bit later than what I was looking for. I made a reservation through the main Disney site and got a confirmation number. Everything looked official even though I have no vacation package scheduled through Disney yet. Am I able to make all of my reservations and then book maybe a month later? Seems like this can't be. Can anyone verify?

Thanks!

Yes, at 180 days or less from the day(s) you want to dine, you can book that reservation. No one is required to have a reservation at all to book dining reservations.

The PP's information is 100% accurate. You may book reservations at 180 days or less. If there is a chance that you are going, then you definitely should book reservations. If the trip falls through, then it would be considerate to cancel them (but I am sure you'd do that anyway :goodvibes)

The posts discussing perceived flaws of the reservation system were removed as they really had nothing to do with the OP's question. Disney's policy is that you do not need room reservations to make dining reservations, and the OP intends to act within Disney's policy.

Ok a little off topic, but speaking of the 180 days, does anyone remember back when those not staying on property had to wait until 3 days(I think that's right) before the date you wanted the ADR to call in order to try to get the reservation. I can still remember every year before we started staying on property my mom calling to get reservations for breakfast on the Empress Lilly and if it didn't work for the day we wanted she would call back the next day and try again. (some trips it took more phone calls than others) I am not sure I would want to try doing that these days.:scared1:

Ok back to the topic on hand.
