We just got back this week from Two days at the Hard Rock/Royal Pacific, five at the Boardwalk, then two at the Royal Pacific.
The first two nights at the Hard Rock we had two pool view rooms reserved , and at the Royal Pacific two pool view room non-smoking rooms reserved. We received four garden view rooms, with a smoking room at the Royal Pacific. Showed them the paperwork, but too bad.
The next weekend at the Royal Pacific, we had three rooms, all pool view reserved. We got 3 garden views. It seems Nike had a convention and as the CM at the desk told us took all of the pool view rooms. We did pay for the Loews upgrade for one of the rooms to get a suite, but not pool view. I guess it was ok that we were not looking at the pool because someone also reserved a private party at the pool, and it was closed for the guests at 5 pm. Parks close at 6 , so we figured we would go back and swim afterwards, wrong. I asked why they didn't tell us it would be closed when we called to confirm our "Pool view" rooms earlier in the week, and the manager told me that would be a bad "business decision" because we would have canceled our reservations. I think this guy must have sold used cars in the past.
The next day pool open, pool bar closed, Jakes pool side bar closed private party. Manager told us we should have known it was the convention time of the year, ( is there a calendar we can buy to let us know this?) but lucky us, we could walk up to the third floor to get drinks to bring down, but all the adults must be present. Amenities are great.
Trip was great though, last two days at Royal Pacific just left a bad taste in our mouths. We had great prices at the Animal Kingdom lodge, but the kids wanted to do the Dive in Movie and the great pool they advertise at the Royal Pacific. It would have been nice had they let us know before we checked in that we couldn't use the pool. They said we could drive or take a boat to the other hotel pools, but if wanted to do that we would have stayed there. Something about getting in a van or boat and driving to a pool in your bathing suit, walking through the lobby, too much work.
So the answer to your question, can you request something, yes, is it guaranteed, nope. Kinda like the Seinfeld episode, "anyone can take a resv., the most important thing is to HOOOld the resv."
The resort WAS very nice, but I've never stayed in a resort, where a group of people could close the pool to the other paying customers, just very odd.
Definitely call before you check in, to check to see if any of the amenities you were paying for are off limits to you, like the pool, pool bar, restaraunts etc...
